Then from that comes a dogmatic writ down belief code, and generations follow it. THAT is what is happening.

PARTICULARLY out of all the Ibrahimic beliefs, Islam is taken literally even NOW.

'women are chattel'? we beat, rape, and murder women. DONE

'stone adulterers'? we stone adulters. DONE

'kill homosexuals'? we kill homosexuals. DONE.....etc

Islam equates to the regular reading of the Quran. I hope you're not talking about a group of people who are considered to be muslim (by birth) but who do not read the Quran on a daily or weekly basis. I know many 'muslims' like that, like coffeeshop owners and friends I had in the past. They are modern people. They do not practice the Islam as discussed in the first post of this thread. We're talking about people for whom regular reading of the Quran is a way of life. And in that type of Islam, which isn't just the extremist type, these Quran statements are imprinted upon the minds of young and old, over and over again. An 'us and them' mentality is reinforced by it. That is the problem I would personally like to discuss, because it is a problem of our world. But nobody wants to discuss, everyone just wants to take the discussion in another direction: "No, let's talk about Christianity", "No, let's talk about moderate muslims", "This is racism!", "What do you think should be the limits of freedom of speech?" Why doesn't anyone want to discuss this matter boldly?

The point with ideologies is that people who follow it don't separate between it and themselves. When you are attacked by someone for your convictions about Astrology you argue over it and don't take the criticism seriously, because you know that it works, which is precisely what happens if you attack the ideology of Islam. Ideologies are hermetically sealed off from criticism and other attacks.

Astrology isn't an ideology, Islam is. The two can't be compared. A better example is the way my Hindu beliefs were challenged by scholars who had taken a critical look at the sacred texts (the Vedas and Puranas). Contrary to what you're suggesting, it did allow me to separate between it and myself.

Dervish says he's a sufi. It's clear we're not discussing sufism here. I know of no sufi poetry that encourages anyone to act with aggression. It's often said that Islam itself never underwent a reformation, but one of its branches did transform itself into a true religion of love, sufism.

The authoritarian statements that are said to be the law for all pious human beings, until the end of time. We're not criticizing the color of their clothes, the sound of their prayers, the shape of their Mosques, the length of their hair or beards, the motifs of their carpets, the arabic script or any of that. Nor is it a skin issue, or a matter of territory. It's about the way scripture stifles and endangers human progress. If you think I'm arguing about anything else, you missed my point.
