I went to a second hand book store, and found a book (in Dutch), translated from Arabic, by Nasr Hamid Aboe Zaid:

I thought it would be nice to hear about the problems I've been concerned with from a muslim. The books and websites I've read so far were mainly from nonmuslims, some with their own religious agendas. I read some of it and must say I'm fascinated by his approach.

Can you not see the obvious connection , why a man of the Islamic faith would do that to a woman considering the way women are viewed in shariah law?

No, I always had the feeling that at least divorce isn't a big issue in Islam. Perhaps every now and then (and in certain regions) a jealous man will throw acid in the face of his ex-wife or indeed kill her, but I see no justification for that in the Quran or Arabic culture in general.

Beheadings of tourists, journalists and soldiers is another matter, but then again, we've only seen that happen in war zones, where everyone loses his mind after a while.

By the way, I did see several beheadings in 2004, there was a website at the time that showed all kinds of horrible footage. I felt that since this was going on (it was mentioned on the news), I wanted to see it. Not to get excited about, but to see how they actually do it. And well, now I know. The wars must end, and religion must go.

Then CM you have very much missed my point, and examples about the terrible abuse against women with the Shariah Law. Admittedly that was a very extreme example of such abuse, but is inevitable when women are seen as lower, as it is for all victims of abuse. I also thought it really relevant the slowness of media to even mention this story, as stated in the article. That same 'liberal' fear of saying anything negative about Islam.

I have seen two beheading videos--they were togther. One was by neo nazis and the other by Islamic terrorists. I sense that the neo nazis are copycating the Islamiscists. For the latter it is lart of their tradition as shown in the Qu'ran which is why they do it, to degrade their victims!

When I saw the first one, there was first a very long speech, so my feelings revolved around the fear in the eyes of the captured people, and around Allah, as he was mentioned quite a few times in that speech. Then they started repeating "God is great", and with quite some effort removed the head, all the while shouting their slogan, until they at last held it up in the air. It was all very much like an un-censored animal sacrifice as sometimes shown on National Geographic. But on all the video's they didn't chop but saw the head off, not halal at all.
