And keep it perfecly clean, preventing any risk of cantamination.

ofcourse ofcourse, I live in holland and right now it's shitty weather. So now it wouldn't be under 'direct' sunlight. Though within weeks it could be better (worse) and my room faces south (verry much light).

I was planning on putting the box in a large 'tupperware'-like container, with some plastic foil over it. would that do the trick ? (can I still place it in my stoner-room ?)

I'm not pretending to be a specialist, but I've read that when the mycelium has colonized the cake, being sterile isn't THAT important anymore because it's strong enough to fight of strange invaders. Also, I'm growing mushies from scratch in my room. The mycelium is still growing and I can't say my room is the most sterile enviroment one can find either, but still, all seems to be going well (as you can see on spacevis.be) /forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Of course, if you want to avoid any risks and want the highest harvest possible, I think it's advisable to blow smoke out of your window /forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif I know, it's cold and wet, but maybe for you it's worth the sacrifice /forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif

You can always use a lamp to provide heat to the kit, and if you want total control, you can use a heat controller (I dont know the name in english, but it's that thing that control the temperature, and can turn on and off the power supply of a heat source, depending on the temperature that you set it to mantain. I'm being clear enought? Well, all refrigirators, heaters, ovens have it.)

This way you can "program" that device for switch on the light when the temperature gets to low, and to turn off when the temperature is above the right temperature.

Any "normal" light will produce heat, so this way you can have light and heat, from the same source, without using direct sunlight.

When using a tupperware container, you can use it's cover. You should keep it a little open, so the air can move.
Using this technic, I think you can put the kit anywere.

Yes, I think you're right. The most problematic part of the shroom grow is the inoculation of the micelium inside the jar. But you still need to be carefful after the cake is taken out the jar, because contamination can still occur.
This way you can optimize grow, and therefore get more crops.

I have to say that I dont have a lot of practical knowledge about growing, but I read a lot about it, and I've got the mushroom growing made easy tape from azarius and this advices are from there.

Ok guys, I was wondering: could it be possible to, after you have 'dunked the cake' to use the water to 'inoculate' a brown rice/vermiculite mixture ? (I know its not inoculating cuz it's not spores but mycelium in the water)

or

could you, after 4th or 5th harvest, break up the mycelium cake, mix it with brown rice, vermiculite and water to make new cakes ?

in other words, could these methods be used to make new spore-colonies and new batches of shrooms ? /forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif

sounds like a good idea , but i think the mycelium would be a little old , i ll try and see if it works

Unfortunatly that won't work /forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Your best bet it to capture the spores before they release. If you don't have any spore then you can make a slurrie out of a fresh mushroom. You pick a fresh one a put it in the blender. That's called a slurrie. Use that to innoculate your cakes. The other way to do it is to clone your shrooms. You'll have to look at shroomery.org for that tek.

That´s right ACE! It´s much more easier to grow from spores! But using the Honey tek u can grow faster mycellium and use it to inoculate rye grain jars not PF cakes! /forum/images/graemlins/cool.gif

From what I have read, it CAN be done, but you will have mutations wich can 'corrupt' each other. The strain won't be neutral as with spores, where you have just 1 genotype.

Ahh well, maybe I will give it a try, and try to make some spore-seringes also /forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif

why would there be more than one genotype ?

because after 5th flush your cake will be completely deprived of any food source, and will be overrun with mycelia. It starts eating itself resulting in mutating of the original tisue, or so some sources say. Uhh, I will try it in a few months or so. Not verry much literature about this.

Yeah! It could happen mutations very oftenly!

But i don´t see any bennefit by using the mycellium from an already harvest PF-cake! /forum/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I'm just too lazy to do some inoculating, btw I was planning on doing it with a cubensis growkit. after 4th harvest or something. (my order should be ariving this wednesday /forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif)

plan was to use the max-harvested cake, break it up, mix with new nutrients and growthmedium (brown rice, vermiculite etc) to make new batches of cakes. Except I don't know if mycelia can be put back to growth-stage after they have 'flowered' multiple times.
