Question about Cubensis Growbox

Now THAT'S a big mushroom! Can't help feeling some envy while looking back and forth between that picture and my own growbox.

Did you do anything out of the ordinary or did it just happen to turn out that way? And was that the first flush? Anyway, congratulations seem to be in order.

Most of the times the yield is the same , its just the last flush and the mycelium wants to survive or at least through spores so all its strength are in this last big shroom. Overal these kits give a good yield but the size of the mushrooms can vary.

it is big allright!!! but doesn't look very appealing to eat...
and alkaloid content won't be higher, or?...hence my question : doesn't the mushroom stop producing alkaloids when he releases the spores? if so it was useless to let it grow so big, smaller are nicer and you want to eat them right away ehehehe

How do you guys preserve the mushrooms?
In a fridge or dried?

I dry my own and store them in ziplock bags in total darkness.

holy shit... wtf, did you eat the big one ? nice pic... :D

sorry for doublepost but question at rutger... are you the rutger from azarius ? if yes you wrote me yesterday...

looks now like that... unfortunatly you can't see the smaller ones..

Well I've just filled up the kit with water, so in the morning I will drain out all the water and open the lid, man I can't hardly wait 2 weeks till my first flush

you've got to enjoy the growing every singel day... it's good when you see you did every thing right and your little friends enjoy their enviroment. :D

don't worry about it.. if there is no blue or green color everything is allright.. my second kit is growing 8 days now, too and i can't see anything more than you.. they definatly need more time as said in the azarius instruction..

the tip with fanning out the co² was very good, i suggest to do the same with your setup...

tWizTA,

Yes that is me, sometimes my answers are a bit short, don't take any offence please , its just very busy.

Hippie's Dunk tek is a simple yet effective way to extend the useful lifespan of cubensis cultures such as PF cakes.
This tek should be used whenever the cakes/casings dry out. Also it can be given after full colonization to replace water lost so far.
The tek itself is quite simple. It essentially consists of submersion of the cake/casing underwater for 12 to 24 hours. Don't worry, that will not harm your cakes/casings. This is best done under refridgeration, if possible.
One can even dunk cakes/casing that already have small pins safely. Just don't overdo it, by 48 hours underwater they will be dead.
As for what kind of water to use, natural spring water is best but you can even use it straight from your faucet if need be.
Temperature during the dunking should be cold, or as cool as possible and still above freezing.
Time spent dunking should be not less than 6 hours for minimal benefits. 12 hours is about right for dunking in between flushes and at birth but 24 hours is the maximum for full rehydration of nearly spent cakes.
There are at least 2 options for how to dunk. My prefered method is to dunk each cake individually by placing it in a jar, filling with water, then screw on the lid to keep the cake submerged. This way is good for small batches, and has the advantage of keeping each cake isolated so no contaminants are spread from cake to cake.
For larger batches, you can simply place several cakes in a large pan or bucket, cover with water and weigh down the cakes by placing a weighted down lid, plate, etc. on top of the cakes.

After dunking, drain well, gently pat dry with paper towels, etc. and return it to the fruiting environment.

@rutger

have no probs with your answers, alway everything into what have to be said..
:D

got one tip for all who want to order a kit from azarius.. you better follow the instruction which is linked on the website instead the instruction which is written directly on the kit. think the dunking tec is th better solution for an succsessfully growing of this cubensis strain...

does anyone know which strain the growbox medium contains ? is it the "golden teacher, perhaps ?

:D OK, one box got green mold on it some days ago and i removed it and threw it away but my second one is comming real good. today i'm gonna get my first harvest. i will make some pics so you can see it. i count about 30 ones and they are really big. before i put the box back after dunking, i think i'm gonna make some changes to my setup so there is less posibillity for an contamination.

i fanned fresh air with an aquarium pump but didn't filter the air i think that caused my first contamination. i'm gonna change this with some "hepa" filter to keep the bads outside. :)

well all in all nice growkit. will make some sporeprints and try it with the pf-tek...

thanks again for your support..

The medium and large kit contain the Mexican Strain ;)

I'm curious about your setup. I've placed my cubensis grow kit in a plastic box. Within that box there is a small box filled with water. The water is heated by an aqaurium pump. The box containing the heated water and the grow kit are covered by transparant plastic foil.

Mexican is a name for all Psilocybe cubensis strains like the Golden Teacher. And people I have the idea that very complicated setups with heaters and stuff only work to the down side. Just use the filterbag and put it in a warm but not too dry place and it will work just fine. You would not believe how much mushrooms you can get from a kit that is just standing on a shelf somewhere on 20 C in a livingroom.
