Technicalities I would think, in regards to the mushroom/maggot situation...
As a vegetarian myself I am sure I consume a certain amount of insect parts and pieces everyday, simply hidden in the various vegetation or occasional canned fruits and veggies I consume. It would be impossible to eat foods, even as a vegan, and never have any meat if insects and other things are considered "animal products". Even parasites, microorganisms....if you had lice and used a special shampoo is would be the same thing, as well as if you simply were to breathe in mites or other tiny organisms which are killed by your immune system.
