The usual dog food, for example, contains meat (red meat or chicken meat doesnt matter). and I would love if someone corrected me if im wrong, but I doubt it is best quality meat from well-treated, free-running and painlessly killed animals.. So if one is a vegetarian to not support this shit industry, then what to do?

what do you guys think?

i believe there are soya based alternatives. and you are right, it is not the best meat. its not fit for humans too eat

There is little difference between canned meat for humans and for dogs . Dogs dont need any meat at all and can live vegan . But not just off food rest from our plates . They need things like musli to ..............but then they fart a lot .

any idea on how would a balanced vegetarian food for dogs be? like, proportions and stuff?

or links maybe?

Well what did you thought about biologic vegan dogfood ;) I am vegan for 8 years now and i buy vegan food for my dogs. One of my dog eated meat for a while, but he always looked ill. But since i got this vegan dogfood for him, he feels great ;)

No , no idea . I saw a report on TV last week about it wich said dogs can be well fed with just vegean food . Cats cant they need meat .

I used to give dogs in my care only vegan food . Oats , musli , dog biscuits and veg . On the next day i saw what came out and regulated the quantity and mixture acordingly to the amount , texture and smell..............

Its not hard to get the amount righ . Just dont let it get fat . You should be able to see its ribs . The mixture seemed to be different for each dog . Youll see that if it gets the shits .

It seems that vegan cat food also exist. I don't know what to think about it.

All i know is that my dog is doing fine on the food of yarrah.

I think maybe i gonna try this with my dogs, this yarrah food is really to expensive. The dog food cost sometimes more, then the money i spend for my own food :P

The documaenary said it wasnt possible to feed cats vegetarian because they had always eaten meat and with dogs it was OK because they had always eaten what they could get .

I got soft and broke my no contact with meat with the last dog . She used to go in the pet shop and sit and droole all over the pigs ears untilli bought her one . I think she thought that she was the boss and i was her servant . I`m sure that the absolute unconditional love that a dog will give you if you treat it right is part of an ancient man dog symbyosis .

well probably the difference between you and your dog is that he doesn't care whether the meat he gets is from animals that were killed in a moral acceptable way of killing.

but maybe the most expensive dog food isn't really healthy for the dog and you should feed him soya steaks ???

peace :weedman:

Im very happy with the answers from all of you, thanks a lot :)

Being from Brazil, I never found some equivalent from what you posted, mystic warrior.. but seems very nice, this yarrah food. I bet I wouldnt have the money for it, though, haha :D

but im happy to know there is something like that, and that people do buy it..

I think the solution in my case would be to just give some kind of normal food, and as GOD said, check out the feces and find out a good diet for her..

sure maybe the dog wouldnt mind.. but think about it.. would you buy a cheap t-shirt made from slave work and give it as a present if the person receiving it wouldnt notice?

I personally wouldnt, and it wouldnt matter if it is me or someone else using it, but more because as a (trying to be) conscious consumer, I wouldnt want to give money to some slave owner, and neither do I want to give money to the shit exaggerated meat industry.

Your answer makes you a NICE dog owner!!! You THINK about what you want to get for your dog and therefore you help your dog, by using your brain in a good way for his benefits.

I think dogs love meat, but maybe they would agree with you, that the meat from animals that suffered their whole lives, by staying in prison cells all their lives and their only purpose building up their body for being slain one day, tastes worse than the meat from "free" animals.... But well i guess the animals don't really know that, so their lives must seem to them kind of futile...

peace.

"I think dogs love meat"

Dogs love eating .

My dogs loves everything they can get.

Here are some pics of them :)

Isn't vegan dog food a little contradictory? If you're a real vegan you're not supposed to keep animals, are you?

But well, I think dogs can live vegetarian/vegan just like people as long as the diet is properly balanced.
I'm a little weary with vegan cat food (which also exists...). I mean cats are 100% carnivores, they only eat grass once in a while to clean out their stomachs. If I was vegan and still keeping a cat (which is contradictory in itself) I'd have to breed living mice and let my cat hunt them for food - that way I could at least be sure the meat was free-living quality meat. I wouldn't want to force a cat to eat vegan, I think that is just cruel!

you could breed vegan-mice and feed these to your cat, as vegan-mice would probably be quite healthy for the cat and therefore good food...

why? dogs have a relationship with us that spans thousands of years... it transcends what you eat.
