Everyone knows that weed sometimes comes in fruity flavours, I was just wondering how the weed gets that flavour. Is it grown like that or do people add to it post harvest?

its natural, the smell/taste is in the volatile oils and has nothing to do with strengh

my favorite flavor/smell so far has been a yellowish strain that smelled like green tea or maybe oregano. not even really like weed. yum!

yeah sometimes it gets perfumed, depends where you get it, but if the smell is natural and really nice then it got to be good weed :weedman:

for me the scent is best when it hast like a fresh flavour accompanied by some sort of sweet and spicy flavour. mmmmmmmhhh tasty!!!! :weedman:

some sort of sweet and spicy flavour

hehe.. I know what you mean. There's a strain around here that's referred to as green mango and it smells just like that :)

I`d rather it didnt stink . Its a drag when the whole street stinks like a cheep brothel .

it depends on the cannabis strain cultivated. some growers add some flavor a few hours before harvest. you can do that with different flavors. vanilla, lemon and berries work pretty good.
just add some concentrated flavor (you can buy them in the backery section in you local supermarket) to the water. don't use too much and only for a short time and leave the plants some time to process.
other than that, its just a question of breeding.

Most of the replies seem to agree with my theory that flavour is mostly added manually. Does anyone if there are actually any strians where fruity flavour occurs naturally?

I have also heard rumours that cannabis kind of incorporates the smell of its surroundings, eg, put the skin of a fruit inside your stash jar and eventually your weed smells like that fruit. Is this true?

I never heard of anybody putting perfume on their weed (or in the soil, whatever) and I doubt that anybody would do this.

I'm pretty sure that the plants get that smell in a natural way.
most of the stuff I grew smelled like citrons. but I also had one which had something of rosemary and lavender to it :D

The flavour / smell is genetic . Or have you ever found a perfiume that smells like grass ? And if someone perfumed grass how do you think it would burn = with a shity smell and taste . Also why should they do it if it makes the whole street stink with all the risk that would bring ?

I have had grass that people gave beer on the last few days . You could taste it , but it tasted and burnt shity . I`ve also seen plants that were called garlic grass and they stunk like garlic allthough they were never fed any .

Grow grass and see.......

the flavors are not added manually. if you want a fruity one try dutchmans royal orange or blueberry. dutchmans royal orange smells exactly like orange. blueberry smells of blueberries when growing and will keep the smell if dried carefully- its also a lovely smoke -and a good mix of cerebral high and body hit, but is prone to hermaphrodising if it gets stress. the royal orange is very stable

Arjan's Srawberry Haze from Green House Seed Co. for example smells and tastes like strawberry. There are lemon, orange and other flavors out there. All natural by breeding certain genetic strains.

But a grower can, as I mentioned before, add some flavors to the plants manually. It does not has to be artificial flavor (many flavors used for food preparation are natural flavor concentrates) but they are applied to the plants artificially. Some flavors work quiet good. And if you don't overdo it, it does not affect the plant or the high...

personally i would avoid any dealer who added flavors to his weed just as i would avoid any who bulked the weight with glycerin or dried the product too quickly. purchasing from them would only encourage such bad practices in others and make it the norm.

Flavour schmavour. I don't smoke weed for the taste. The best tasting weed I ever had was shitty weed that didn't really get me high.

If you get high you can let a lollypop taste like pretty much any fruit you can imagine by projecting the taste.

i think the nicest tasting weed i ever smoked was Thai that had orange juice concentrate poured over it. i was still getting ripped off though and wasnt very happy about it. that had been done to add weight though, not for the flavour.
the problem is that if you smoke anything there are (radical)chemical reactions that produce some very nasty products. adding anything, even natural flavors just increases the number of possible byproducts created in the vapor phase. a simple thing like the plant not having used all the nitrates in its cells before harvest can result in higher levels of carcinogens such as nitosamines and if nothing else a very harsh smoke.

Very true.
Hard to find the thin line, which is why I would recommend this only to experienced growers. Log process of trial and error and lot to research...

I personaly think anyone who adds any flavour to grass should have his legs broken and his ears cut off and be made to eat them .

I personally would prefer to buy only from persons who know exactly the effect of the stuff on the plant that they use for watering for the flavour. I don't know why water with fruit extract or concentrate should be really bad for the plant ?? I suppose it will take what it needs from the soil and the water which it occasionally gets. But maybe the plant can be forced to take the flavour by adding some chemicals or whatever ?? who knows??

peace.

I did not try it myself yet , but I want to experiment with it in the near future. So come along and break my legs... :)
Or try the weed first...

I have no tolerance for intolerance...
