If I ever knew blissful conscience experience I would just close my eyes.

make your own kind of music

Alice in wonderland, Milton's paradise lost, or the divine comedy if you must fall

i realy like books. they were my first drug (a means of escape from reality). if read the right way, they let you see the world from different perspectives. and they are fun. even religious and brain-washig material can be useful. one only has to put the right amount of doubt in his reading.

it seems almost imposible nobody mentioned

P. K. Dick's V.A.L.I.S.

another book worth reading is

Umberto Eco's Foucault's Pendulum (and The name of the rose)

enjoy and be careful not to take anything you read too serious.

Foucault himself a blast read!
Eco a personal recommendation as well
André Breton, and in general some dadaist periodicals and blasphemies:

Heidegger some labyrinth
Ghelen, crazy antropologist

Lévi-Strauss a must read for any psychonaut I believe

sopor a dit:

This might be the most important thing about books.

I started to read books regularly with about 6-7 years. And my favorites were fairy tales, legends, sagas and such. Later (9) it was Michale Ende's Neverending Story and then Sherlock Holmes (which conditioned me a lot to analytical thinking). And no wonder, I later ventured into fantasy and si-fi.

It really can change your view of what others call reality.

Illuminatus with 15 did the rest to kill all that was left from social mass conditioning in me...

I follow the rule of Crowley with things like that. While I am reading it, I am part of it, believing it without a doubt. As soon as I finish, I laugh out load and dismiss all of it as utter crap. And in the following weeks my brain filters all that is useful by itself.

good one. all of his stuff.

i don't like Eco anymore tho. Name of the rose is almost impossible, if you don't speak fluent latin (or wanna spik through a sencondary book half of the time). And the pendulum is too much of anti-anti-propaganda for me.

Platon the the Striptease Club is funny tho...

oh and: Lewis Carroll
especially if your are into psychedelics

Rofl funny how this thread turned in a fight about the utility of books just because I expressed myself badly :P

Of course no book is ESSENTIAL for a psychonaut but some can be useful... What I meant was books that are likely to interest a psychonaut :P

And wtf... are there really people that take everything they read in books for the Truth? oO

What I'm looking for are books that make you think, and also ones that give information about psychedelics and their uses and benefits.

I don't want tripping guides, there's no need for this. Psychonauting is sailing the mind, so basically all you need for this is a mind. A ship can be useful too though :P

I would also prefer books that have a french version.

So here is a list of everything that has been mentionned in the thread, I need help to sort this out, so please tell me what is the most interesting in your opinion. I put in bold the ones that attract me the most by the impressions you gave me. If you feel motivated you can shortly describe what the books you know of are about (and for the "authors mentionned only", what is/are their best book(s)?). Be conscious that I probably can gather all this information by myself but I am lazy :P

and this is by no means all. I have tons of books and authors i would suggest.

The way some of you lot talk about books sounds like a kid with a teddybear to me .

I like playboy , the telephone book and all the ones that havent been published yet .

I dont like books because the pages give you a sore arse when you wipe it with them . And they are useless to role joints with .

If there were ultimate truthes in any book it would sell out on the first day and everyone on the blanet would have it . The book of life is within you , why not read that ?

Let's burn them all. Along with all the teddy bears and green socks.

Ha ! Ha ! Ha!

You got it , but lets not burn them , lets just put them in propper relationship to their value .

:(
Not burn them ????

There is nothing like a good book burning. Maybe we can start with the telephone book

books are evil!!!!!! we need to burn all books on the planet ... then we'd be something like super-apes.... super-apes don't need stupid shit like books!!!!!!!!!

Ignorance is Strength.

(also should probably be on any psychonaut's reading list as well ;) )

Ignorance is next to lazyness

books by Terry Prattchet
a psychonaut could do worse than read some of his stuff. lol

ignorance is either chosen or not chosen blindness.

ignorance means always being a follower

I think I have mentioned him before. Robert Irwin..
Great writer
