Becoming a vegetarian

I agree that everyone has to keep his respect, I ate meat my whole life and thought I could never do without it, so it would be hypocrite to fight with meat eaters, also if people are vegetarian their whole life. For me just because of my visions I became aware I didn't like they way it goes, don't need it and also feel better mentally without it. I believe now that most meat has less taste at all, the species makes them taste nice. So about this subject as others it's best to listen to each others opinions and repect that, don't start fights or prevoke. Stay huble because a visioner does not belong to the big crowd that has short tempor and can't think critical or becomes angry because of different opinions. Politicians or as for me every well organized group is dangerous cause you start to believe you know best and because of your superiority you think you can tell others to what to do cause it in their interest to maintain this system, and I call that backward thinking. maybe i9 drive from the subject put the point is respect you have and get with love and staying huble also when it's not your believe.

stop spilling BBQ-sauce :p !!

ah well, i like reading this thread anyway..

Naqoyqatsi is the second movie ?
I believe there were 3 right ??
or there has to come a third
and tell me what u think of Our daily Bread then i`ll download that one also :)

well so far so good :) my friends are continously talking about meat .. on purpose orcorse hahah quite funny though :)
my little brother keeps telling me he supports me but he does tease me
but I guess it will loose its fun in a while

i read in the newspapers that the biggest harm to the environment is done by the animal-husbandry. i'll search for the artikle

I have no idea what u mean by Animal husbandry :)

Go for it pro. :)

Anyway, I eat meat 3-4 times a week. Humans are on top of the food chain, thus eat meat. Simple enough for me. :)

I love eating steak when tripping. I remember thinking about the animal that was killed to deliver me this perfect piece of steak. I didn't feel sorry I was going to eat it, just respected the animal.

Anyway, good luck with it Pro. :)

yo
Me and prostoner go to school together(well most of the time 8) )
we decided to become vegetarian.
I always loved meat but my view slowly changed over the years, partly because I was using allot of psychedelics.

I used to think it was a real big stap and things could get difficult if my friends wanted to eat a hamburger and I had to eat a salade. But I immediatly saw that it wasnt about I had to but I wánt to :D
And that was the moment for me to stop eating meat, and i don't know how many days i've being doing this but it's really easy çause i love vegtables and fruit! So it's just a matter of finding new recipes for delicious quick healthy dishes!

Greetings and love to all

I found some interesting scientific arguments for a life as a vegetarian in a hare krishna () recipe book:

- the grain/cereals necassary to feed the animals could be eaten directly, this gives more food than meat can ever do. The required amount of grain for one portion of meat provides meals for 50 people.

- so, even if the worldwide meat production decreases with 10%, this means there becomes food available for 60 million people

- the same goes for water, for 1 kg of meat a few thousand litres of water are needed, while 1 kg of grain only a few hundred.

so, even if the worldwide meat production decreases with 10%, this means there becomes food available for 60 million people

Good you bring this up. I like meat too much to become a vegan, but those arguments make me painfully aware of the unevenly distributed wealth in the world.

This wasting resources problem arises with animals specially bred for consumption. But animals bred for their "products" like milk or eggs do not waste the huge amount of energy/food. Problem is, old cows and old chickens taste like rubber ! So much so, that a friend and I gave away most of the chicken we prepared to the pigs.

This whole topic is really a philosophical question of what threshold is considered "luxury goods" connected to that is the moral question: "is it justified to expends scarce energy on luxury goods"

My hope is that withing our lifetime the technology will be develloped, and most importantly, made available to all humans that renders energy irrelevant.

Think about it: with abundant energy/electricity you could even grow 3 crops a year of potatoes in greenhouses and hand it out for free.

This may sound like wizardry, but look into topics like "hydrino hydrogen" ,
"hydrogen fusion" or large algea bassins near shores. On every square meter during daylight there is about 800 watts of incoming energy. The average houshold only uses 800 watts of electricity. Sure, peaks are higher.. but at night almost no energy is used.

So this may seem offtopic, but it is not. Argument pro or con vegetarian should be based of personal believes, not of practicallities of "I cow X is raised, man or woman Y won't eat"

The latter is a social, political and economical consequence (I'd like to think not a discission) from the age where technology were in its infancy. Now it has arrived into adolence and is able to perform some small tasks for all of us, yet most of us are not aware of this.

Ok I've been considering this for 25 years, I'm going to live as a vegetarian as well. I have no excuses for not doing it earlier. only that I'm lazy and finding out good vegatarian recipes, cost time. I set my start date on third week of februari and I will watch this thread closely for tips.

If you like Indian food, there is no problem being a vegetarian, not hard to find good recipes as well :D

The problem only arises in countries where meat is the main constituent of every meal, China, South America...

Chinese also have veggie stuff, a lot of tofu, tempe, seitan, etc.
Vegetarians can eat eggs, yogurt, fruit, cereals, potatoes, beans, etc. You get used to the taste of tofu, and such.

I looooooooooooooooove tofu!

I love me some Indian food as well. There's so many things you can do with a chick pea (garbonzo bean), you got hummus, polenta and falaffels. All delicious.

I just found this page. It's pretty damn funny and this particular article perfectly sums up how I feel and even mentions some of the crap I pointed out last week. Take it as a joke, it's not serious. Well, maybe a little; but read the link at the bottom of that page, it's about the "Least Harm Principle".

people that think this way about vegetarians.. lol
what he is also saying then .. cause i`m assuming he does not live off a whole meat diet.. he is double the murderer that a vegetarian is ...
and also when he gives this argument.. he really means to say we should just shoot ourselves in the head right now .... because we hypocrit vegetarians ... are still responsible for millions of dead animals..
if we really did not want to be a harm to the planet .. the only sollution is mass suicide
but since that's is not gonna happen ... and even vegetarians need to eat..
we choose this path .. and narrowing down the damage we do
which in my eyes is better then this extremist talking about how we are still such bad people..
he is so consumed with prooving that we are so bad.. he is saying that he is even worse
the mainpoint here is .. that he is to shortsighted to see that nobody can be perfect.. and that we just try to find a midway between things
reducing the harm we cause to our enviroment...
and since i`m not planning on killing myself .. I think for myself this is the best solution

how about talking about abortion now?

joke...

alice

please let's not do talk about that :)
if there's anything I hate discussing about more then it that subject..
that always was like the main subject in our class full of retards
when we had to do an assignment about learning how to discuss lol

I'm all about abortion; too many damn children being born as it is.

Pro; I don't really feel that way about vegetarians, I just thought it was a pretty funny little read. The guy's a writer for Mad Magazine, and everything on his page is written to sound like he's a pompous, asshole, know it all. That's why I think it's so funny.

How's your diet going by the way?
