From what I know:
1) California is a mighty fine place to grow and to smoke if you have a cannabis club card (which requires you to register with the state) at least before:
2) New legislation changes now only require you to have a prescription from a doctor (a significant change, since now the only people who you have a file with is your doctor and your cannabis club). Police/officials/etc are not allowed to hassle you for anything other then smoking while driving or smoking in public, as long as you have your prescription.
3) Typically each prescription allows you to grow no more then 6 mature plants, however you may be allowed to grow more depending on need. More likely, as long as it's not unreasonable you may have up to 12.
4) Finally, there are two seperate and distinct distribution styles. The first is the one that most people are familiar with (i.e. cannabis club/medical dispensary) where a private business either sells directly to the public or middle men are invited to sell in the club. The second is called a co-op (cooperative), where members join and pool their prescriptions to be allowed to grow a large scale operation, paying for supplies in bulk, and being paid out in fine herb.
5) Doing a little search, it's evident if you want to grow Washington or Oregon is the best place to do it, if you want to use peacefully California, Vermont and the above two states would be best. (http://medicalmarijuana.procon.org/view ... eID=000881)
I find it funny that 13 states have passed medical marijuana legislation, like the original 13 colonies... lol.
Over the years, I've had lots of friends over the US who have had prescriptions, and although the prices can sometimes be a little steep, the stuff that comes out of those places is gold.
The funniest thing of all is the variety including every edible you can imagine, drinks (a long island that'll get you high :lol and they'll even sell you clones to grow at home. Basically, with some persistence, it's one more step towards eventual public legalization, but I have to say, one problem with US rules is that conservatives always seem to take advantage of people's ignorance showing children getting high and then going nuts. As if I've ever seen an average stoner want to do more then eat nachos and watch TV...
