Yup, but Slipknot is Nu-Metal 
Even bands like Cannibal Corpse and Nile are Metal, Death Metal, but Metal nonetheless.
It's just a way of giving music a label so people know what to expect.
I love breakcore, but there's also a lot of breakcore that's crap in my opinion.
But it is still breakcore.
I do have to agree on you that there's the "grownup" metal fan and the "Ooh look at us being nasty and dark shit"
(Also the half in between)
I mean Metalhead usually are that way to sepperate them from anybody else right?
I mean mostly they wear "alternative" clothes
But I wouldn't call it a religion, more a way of life.

Although a lot of em over here just drink till they drop.
I must say I have more respect for you then for them

I really like(d) metal. Now I'm going for breakcore. sometimes I think I am just looking for even harder and faster music. and somehow this is true, I'm a very calm person myself, but my music doesn't reflect this in any way 
the harder the music the better. I love the mindbending speeds of breakcore. it really gives me rushes
for me, this is the most euphoric music.
I still love grindcore and death metal. I don't like cradle of filth.. if it comes to black metal, I only like burzum. yeah I know he's a nazi-fuckhead. but his music was good. but I'm not listening much of that stuff. as I said, grindcore gives me wood

Thought know I've become extremely selective, I nearly only listen to good ol' Motörhead...
Those guy are great, no posers, no extremely technical stuff, just good old pure rock'n'roll...
Hell, it even helped me a few times during difficult trips !

In fact it's those releases which made me rethink about (grind?)metal although I'm still a lot more into ambiant electronica, glitch, drill'n bass, breakcore and idm.
To those who thinks that metal whatever it is, is just some noisy, silly, ridiculous crap : do not take it too seriously that's the key

I used to listen to metal bands some time ago. During a kind of weird phase for me, which is - phew - over now. Yet, I still like to listen to bands like Gojira or Soulfly.
In fact I'm definitely on brain dance now. It makes me trip in a certain way, which I've never found in another genre of music.

This guy (onder his Drumcorps monniker) does infact use grindcore elements in his breakcore.
I think most of Bong-Ra's productions are a bit lame, but liiiiive, damn this guy knows how to make some noise.
But the topic was about Metal (before the topic needs to be split again, this already was a split from the Bad Cop, Good Cop topic)
I think Soulfly is a great band!

Everything that is Slipknot-like is bullshit in my opinion, by the definition of music it is music, but in my vision of what is music it is not, it's just an overspeeded beat with someone screaming meaningless lyrics and insanities... But there are other kind of metal that are good. but I personnally don't like the screaming, sometimes I start listening to a song and I'm like "hell that's a pretty good sound, good beat and nice guitar", but as soon as the signer starts screaming it fucks it all up and the song becomes bullshit.
