wikipedia says they may be of "embryonic origin"... what does that mean?? embryos of what?

anyway, it's good to finally have a name for those thingies.

Phillipos your picture is nearly exactly what i see . I was going to explain them as things like little sperms that swim across my vision . If i stop focusing on things i see them moving , and they move away from my sight when i try to look at them . If i dont try to look at them with my eyes and just look away and concentrate on them with my mind i can hold them for much longer . If i am looking into the distance they look like stars .

that winkpedia link has that pic and some explanation for it. that's exactly what i see!

:)

and what do you call it when it is very dark and it sorts of feels like the inside of the eyes, but your eyes are opened and there just this noise or blind-spots everywhere, the more there are the darker you look. they almost appear colorful ???

???????? a dit:

They look like that indeed :)

A lot of people have floaters. Myself included.
Dante is right in that it is an effect of the dilation, constriction and pressure within blood vessels attached to eye, and also fluid unbalance or blemish in the Vitreous humour. Seeing stars is a bit different though, I think this is a vascular effect linked to blood oxygen levels, blood pressure and perhaps glucose.

What about static? anyone get this?

static? like you touch someone and you get electrocuted? or you can percieve it through sight?

As if television static is superimposed onto your vision.

I get little transparent 'dots' floating in my vision almost on the daily. I actually enjoy it. When they appear in class, it gives me something not 'normal' to look at and actually makes my day better. I always thought it was a glitch in reality :D

maybe it's fairies trying to catch your attention!? :P :D

buffa what do you mean by static and by television static being superimposed onto one's vision? do you mean like a superficial tingling feeling in the skin of the eye or the whole eye?? and also a little effect by that on the vision? 8)

Peace.

I like the faeries theory :D

The ones I see seem to follow a predefined path so I've always considered them to be blood cells flowing through tiny capillaries in the eyes. Another phenomenon is bright lights flashing in your visual field when your eyes are closed in a dark room. I don't remember exactly what the cause is but it's completely natural and normal.

Another thing I see that many don't is a couple of small floating dots. An eye exam showed that these are scars on my retina caused by a welder burn from looking at an ark welder when I was in welding shop in high school. When it happened it hurt like crazy but the shop teacher had a home remedy for it. You squeeze the juice from a potato and put a drop of that in your eye. This gives almost instant relief. The pain actually comes from a burn on the cornea. The lasting effect is a scar on the retina which doesn't heal.

sometimes i see them inside, when i just get up or feel kinda dizzy but you can always see them when its a clear sky...Just look in the air and focus somwhere in the middle. Normally they appear and the longer you look, the closer they come.
What's hard is to keep that focus, one blink of the eye and they're usually gone.

some people have them all the time. when i remember the name of the condition ill edit this post...

We all have them , its just that some people dont notice . Its what Shulgin and Ott and others say is where trips start . Flashing lights and Ursymbols in your head . ( Ursymbols is German for original or ancient symbols) .
