my father does/has done alot of graffiti, so it really made me think alot about this aspect of art. there are of course artists who put their stuff on working buildings and i guess in that respect, alot of them are "stealing" adspace. although, if you think about it from a economic standpoint... that space wasn't up for "sale" in the first place, and so it's arguable that it was simply going to waste, as with many other products/aspects of industry. so i personally would call it more of a reclaiming of what was simply going to be rubble, with no other purposes inbetween than the one it had originally, which was nothing more than a barrier. why not decorate it? looks better than plain white or dull grey or what have you. makes the community seem a little more alive.
i hate taggers though. people throwing up shitty one line words for your pussy gang, with whatever spray paint you had laying around. those people make graffiti out to be devious and give graf artists a bad name.
