U have posted this problem before some time. Not yesterday! Haven't looked when but I think that this is couple of months old post.

SO HOW YOUR CACTI IS HOLDING?? ANY DAMAGE? ROOTING MAYBE? SLOW GROWTH? IF U SEE SOMETHING LIKE THIS REPLANT YOUR CACTI. BUT WHEN U REPLANT IT CAREFULLY SEARCH AND LOOK ON EVERY SPOT, SOFTENS, GUMMING AGILITY, SMELL-DOESN'T SMELL LIKE VICTORY. ALSO STING ROOT ON COUPLE OF PLACES. WATCH WHAT U HAVE ON NEEDLE LEFTED FROM STINGING. LIKE CHECKING OIL IN THE CAR! IF U SEE BROWN SOFTEN OR EVEN WATERY MATERIAL, IMMEDIATELY CUT CACTI ON TWO OR MORE CUTTING!!!!! IF YOUR CACTI HAVE 50cm CUT 20cm OF THE TOP, 15-20cm OF MEDIUM AND LOWER PART TO THE PLACE WHERE BROWN STUFF(ROOT)DOESN'T EXIST. ALSO ONE cm OF GREEN TISSUE NEEDS TO BE CUT OF FROM CUTTING NEAR ROOTS! WHY? CAUSE GREEN PART DOESN'T MEAN ANYTHING! DISEASE LIVE IN GREEN TISSUE AND TRAVEL UP. AFTER SOME TIME CACTI WILL BE SO EXHAUSTED, SO HIGHLY THAT NO CUTTING INTERVENTION WILL SAVE HIM

LISTEN TO MY WORDS! I HAVE LOST 26 OLD PEYOTE BY THIS WAY! ROOTS OF HIM! AND NOW SALVIA IS DIEING! WHY? MY IGNORANCE SAD THAT SHE WILL GET BETTER! AND NOW? YELLOWING STARTED TO APPEARER AND PLANT IS DIEING! i COULD SAVE HER WITH CUTTINGS! BUT FUCK NO! WHY TO SAVE PLANT WHEN SHE WILL SAVE HERSELF BY HERSELFS POWERS. SO IF U WANT TO PLAY WITH TIME, DO THAT, AND PRAY THAT PLANT HAVE ENOUGH POWER TO SUSTAIN HERSELF FROM ATTACK. CAUSE CUTTINGS AFTER ROOTING VERY HARDLY SURVIVE.

WHERE IS MY WHITE RABBIT?

I re-planted the cutting, although I was pretty sure it was going to die (it was so small, only 5cm and it looked pretty shriveled).
But now it got a good amount of sun and it is starting to grow! I am really amazed at how much beating a San Pedro can take! It seems like nothing in the world can stop it from growing!
I just planted another cutting that was pretty small, I had forgotten about it and it had been in a drawer for months. When I discovered it it had been growing without light and soil... it had been growing a few centimeters, totally white in color. I planted this cutting and put it in sunlight, it has already become green and I'm sure it will become a great cactus too!
San Pedro cacti seem to be some of the hardest to kill beings on this earth, I guess! Along with psilocybe mushrooms they are probably one of the entheogenic species that would survive a nuclear war!

When we speak bout cacti cutting and how much cacti tissue cacti needs to start regrowing, I will tell one unbelievably story.
I have used 40cm cutting of Echinopsis peruvianus. Lower cutting part.
Upper part was replanted. Afterward small sprout(4cm) emerge out of 13cm wide cutting wound on cacti flesh 3-4cm above ground. By my mistake cacti roots starts to turn soft and weeks after that green tissue and strong roots turns to brown mushy-liquid substance.
Reason is over watering cacti after cutting of 70cm long cacti body. SHIT
So small sprout has been cut of dying old cacti roots. I have cutted sprout 0.5cm after passing border between old cutting wound (time with big cacti)and green tissue of small 3-4cm sprouted cacti body.

BUT!!!!!! :!: :!: :!:
SOMETHING-BODY TOLD ME THIS, SLICE THOSE 0,5CM AND PLACE IT ON SAND MIXED WITH RICH SOIL. AND I DID THAT!
AFTER ONE YEAR "BUTTON" IS STILL ALIVE, GREEN PART WHICH ARE ONLY 0.5CM LONG REMAINS JUST LIKE THE TIMES WHEN IT WAS CUTTED OF! NOW CUTTING IS STARTING TO SHRINQE ON TOP OF IT (JUST LIKE ANY CUTTING BEFORE SPROUTING NEW CACTI OUT OF WOUND).ALSO "BUTTON" BUILDS BODY MASS WITH ENLARGEMENT OF GREEN BODY COVER! COMPARE THIS WITH FIRST CUTTING! THOSE DAYS CACTI CUT WAS ONLY 25% GREEN AND 75% BROWN!!
MIRACLE, I CAN'T FIND OTHER WORDS FOR SUCH BEHAVIOUR!

I got my new camera yesterday (this time I'm going DSLR baby!) and while taking some test shots I also photographed the cactus we were talking about in this thread.
I thought I'd add this picture so everyone can see how nicely the once shriveled little thing has begun growing.

I do not know why but sometimes my posts are so unreadable! Like one before this. Maybe I was sky high or distracted by phone calls or something? But leave it behind.

From first look your cacti is in perfect health. Every cacti have such "brown conditions" especially if it comes from cutting procedure!

Try to gently squeeze those spots. If they are hard super. But if are they soft then U are in problematic situation. See which from those two options cacti have. Also count hardness of cacti itself comparing it with hardness of brown spots.

I can tell you where the brown spots on this one came from. It was the top section of a 60cm piece I bought. On transport it had suffered a little and it had been bumped a lot, so the top had these brown, almost black, spots.
I made a cutting from it and planted it - but it was a little bit too small, so at first it shriveled and didn't grow - then came the incident with the insect - then came summer and it started to grow. The brown spots are old wounds, and they are already looking much better than they did initially.
