Why deprive from sleeping? It's such a pleasure...

I guess the only effects you will get is feel confused, sleepy and more sleepy.

That's swimming against the stream..

personaly i believe theres a deeper understanding of the workings of [my] the mind through direct experience.

reading about other peoples experiences is all well and good but comes nowhere near having experiences of your own

I tried to do this iin december, I made it about 20 hours... I'm really shitty when it comes to staying up, never have been able to pull all nighters, I never get that 'second wind'

I've been up for 24 hrs right now.... but not as a part of any experiment nor to get any kick out of it. Last night i was reading, listening to music, using my computer and stayed up. In the morning it got way too late to sleep cause i had to head for college, if i slept i'm sure i wouldn't have made it.

Somehow i've managed my 1hr drive (going & coming) and made it back..... i think i'm gonna sleep tonight directly cause i don't wanna ruin my sleep schedule :(

Really drowsy!!

Ok so, its over. How did it go down? I'll tell you...

Around the 50th hour, things really went downhill. I got a sore throat, my stomach started to cramp, headache was bigtime, and i was getting cold yet hot at the same time. I started to wrap up in blankets, and started sweating more and more even though i had goosebumps. My tiredness....I didnt feel it. I felt nothing mentally. I felt like i was there, and that was it. Watching tv or anything made no sense, i couldnt understand anything. Around 72 hours, I was miserable. I had the constant urge to puke but there wasnt much in my stomach to upchuck. Everything seemed fake, every movement took effort, and it seemed as if life was numbed. I dont know how to really describe it, but basically everything seemed like a dream and i wasn't alive. I looked on the ground and i saw these black orbs on the ground. I thought at the time they somehow looked like beetles but i realized i was just looking for stuff and they were ordinary orbs. I didnt feel insane at all, because there was nothing to think about, no insane thoughts. I just thought nothing besides my body pains. Looking at my microwave, i couldnt make out the time [it was too blurry] when it was only 10 feet away [i have 20/20 vision]. Since i was becoming sick, i had to end the experiment. I went home and tried to sleep, laying in bed for a couple hours. I finally got some sleep, for about 2 hours, then got some more, and more and more. Last night i finally got normal sleep time (about 9 hours!). So i dont know if it was just me, but i had no audio hallucinations and barely any visual hallucinations. I think you can get the same effect by putting a plastic bag over your head for a minutes [actually that might be better]

Good to hear your OK and thanks for the honest description .

" I think you can get the same effect by putting a plastic bag over your head for a minutes [actually that might be better]"

I totaly agree .

Haha, exactly what it sounds like, deprivation. Don't do it again bud, you lose all your communicators, and eventually essential ones aren't there anymore and ... You DIE!

The visual hallucinations... it really doesn't seem possible with sleep deprivation because your losing communicators.... Not gaining any - but I guess it happens, that is interesting.

Maybe your post will discourage others from doing it :)

Mr.Smith a dit:
sometimes i wonder how the human race survived this long if we are all such delecate little flowers
By sleeping regularly.

What was described is exactly what happens to most people who stop themselves sleeping . You keep telling us you cant sleep and just because you dont have those effects doesnt mean that other people dont .

Why dont you sleep ? Have you been to a doctoirs ? What did he say ?

the longest i've gone without sleep, without the help of narcotics, was 2 and half days
i've done many 24 hour and over
i have a very disrupted sleeping pattern which is quite bad for me and i plan to try and fix as i hear ther are a fair few consequences to your health

i've never hallucinated i just get a bit dumber a bit less co-ordinated and my body feels irritated like itchy eyes and stuff like that

Three days isn't long enough. You can just look this stuff up, you don't really have to do it yourself.

and you can look up the effects of LSD and mushrooms, you dont really have to do it yourself

...

If you just want to know if it can alter your perception and state of consciousness then yes.
If you want to experience it then no.

That's interesting, because I mentioned "ability to fall asleep again" in my post.

Mr.Smith a dit:
CM and God, you should be ashamed of yourselves. you queered the experiment projecting your fears on betadius
It was based on my experiences with two people for whom sleep deprivation turned out disastrous. Moreover I did watch the video you recommended, and commented "it seems to be relatively safe for most people." Since I simply spoke from personal experience, and then was openminded enough to adjust my position, I do not feel ashamed. It's not my fault that betadius didn't first ask for advice before commencing the experiment. At the time of writing his first post he had already been awake for 24 hours. Under such circumstances I think "better safe than sorry."

Dont give us bullshit Mr.Smith . Anyone who has been on this forum long enough knows how long you are awake sometimes . We arent talking about people who only sleep for short times and dont feel ill effects we are talking about the effects of staying awake for long times .

If sleep deprivation isnt confusing why is it used as torture ?

acid can be used as torture as well. I once read a report of someone who did sleep deprivation and fasting and it was .... wow. It really sounded fascinating. I think that it is psychologically too much for many people and needs extremely good preparation.
