Is there a website or a chart that basically spells out after 'x' many hours, you experience 'y'. Ive seen only one thing similar, that is after 24 hours of no sleep, you experience psychosis. And another thing, is caffeine really enough to keep you up? I don't want to take any recreational drugs in this experiment.

And CRAP this is going to be hard :/
I was up last night, and i was drowsy as hell. I was watching a show on tv and i was watching it, but my brain wasnt processing anything about it. I reached the 24 hour mark, and the spacing out got worse. It seemed that my brain went so...tired that it didnt like record anything for 10 minutes. I thought i fell asleep but i remember when i was sliding into and out of the 'blackout' my eyes remained open the whole time. After this 10 minute blackout, i was amazed! I didnt feel tired! I thought that i ruined the experiment and i somehow managed to sneak some sleep in there. I went in my room, and was able to lay down in the dark on my bed, under the covers, without falling asleep. I layed here for about an hour listening to my ipod and i saw this 'orb' shoot down. I realized i was feeling drowsy again and i thought in my head 'heh, orb'....then for whatever reason, a tingle ran down my back and i sat up out of bed real quick and became VERY paranoid for like about 1 second, but quickly faded. I was kinda freakin out and i found it hard to pass time [no internet on computer at night, nothing to do, etc] So i start up Diablo II because i was going to play single player, and it was takin a while to load. So for the loading wait, i sat on my bed, couldnt help but put my head down..... I fell asleep for about 4 1/2 hours! I got to start all over again. Well if you dont count the 4 hours i accidently slipped some sleep in there, id be up now for 36 hours

First of all, a chart that spells out what you will expect after how many hours won't be useful due to the variability in one's psyche. Your mental constitution one day could be completely different than it is a week later.

Second of all, I don't think sleep deprivation is a very good way of exploring the mind. A friend of mine experimented with getting no sleep and ended up in a psych ward. I've found that not sleeping leaves me tired and unfocused, while most of my most potent psychedelic experiences have been when I was at my most sharp and lucid.

Hello,
well i am not doing this due to a shortage of drugs or anything, i just want to see what the body can do on its own without a substance. I have been drinking soda and some coffee but i havnt been pumping them in my system. I noticed i had NO appetite for dinner but i want to make sure i don't die so ill eat anyways ^_^

My goal is to reach some form of delirious hallucination such as seeing something that isnt there like a person, not stuff changing like my ceiling is right now hehe.

Anyhow, i guess i will write down a diary, but i would like to keep it directly on this post! When saying how long i have been up, should i start from many hours ago or should i start from my little 4 hour sleep? I am still not sure if it reseted anything, was it long enough sleep for me to have to start over?

Well ill fill you in now.
It would be, a bit over 38 hours if you don't include my catnap, or only 11 hours if included. I have a feeling it didn't impair too much because things are going a bit crazy again.

For instance, laying on my bed looking at my ceiling, the little bumps are shifting in a pattern way, and i can see a faint rainbow 'snow vision' effect. Looking at objects a few feet away, it appears if theres rainbow outlines, but very faint. Looking away from the object, i can still see the object for quite a few seconds longer than normal. My eyes dont want to focus on anything, and they seem to want to stay in a slight cross eyed position even though it makes my head hurt. I have a feeling im going to get a headache because i can feel something buzzin in my head and near my temples.

I took a nice warm shower and realized that it was making me relax, and i might go to sleep, but it was so soothing! my neck muscles are super sore along with random pains in other muscles. Towards the end of the shower, i boosted it on ice cold to wake me up. Im not feeling to tired right now, just the normal tiredness i get around this time.

edit: note that these visuals are very slight, meaning i have to look for most of them for me to notice

Edit2: I made a picture to show what the orbs are like that i will see for a split second. It is usually in a line like that, always has an angle, always on the side, not middle of vision. I call them pearl necklaces

this is an example of the rainbow edges i see:

Two of my friends lost their minds when they skipped a few nights, though one of them regained his sanity after a couple of months.

Your body "on its own" will just fall asleep every 24 hours. That's natural, sleep deprivation isn't. Walking into a forest and picking some mushrooms, or harvesting some leaves and flowers, that is natural. Sleep deprivation means dream deprivation. No wonder you start "tripping" after a couple of days. It ain't healthy, it ain't natural and it ain't safe. It's not like fasting from food, sex or any of the other secondary needs. It's merely forcing your dream state into your waking state. That might be fun, but it's not useful to you. I read you're drinking coffee and playing games to keep you awake... Why don't you meditate instead?

You write your goal is to reach some form of delirious hallucination. Please remember that the effects of a deliriant always fade away, whereas with sleep deprivation it depends on your decision and ability to fall asleep again. That may not be that easy, especially if you're running around in a delirium.

Please go to sleep, I'm not interested in your diary.

Sleep well.

man, its just an experiment. Im not going to be doing this as a recreational drug replacement. Anyhow, its now been, i dunno, more than 40 hours, and my taskbar [on ubuntu linux, not windows] just flickered rainbow colors. I started typing my friend to tell him over MSN and then the white in the window did the same. Cant seem to see it again :/

It's an experiment that can be harmful to your mental health. Better experiment with lucid dreaming.

Ive tried that with no luck :/ Ive actually tried it during sleep paralysis and when i closed my eyes and try to think 'happy', i still saw the thing coming towards me.

Mr.Smith a dit:
i regularly stay awake for 2-3 nights, a couple of times a month, with no ill effects.
I wonder about that, especially because I've noticed (and please don't take offense) you acted "out of character" a couple of times. I didn't know what to think of it, thought it might have been booze or something, but if you're depriving yourself of sleep a couple of times a month, it may very well have been connected with that. Of course, I can't really tell because this is a forum, not RL, but I do think you should be carefull.

I'll watch the video now. I did read the wikipedia page on sleep deprivation, and it seems to be relatively safe for most people.

Car exhaust fumes are realy good so is sniffing glue . If you cut a vein and loose a few liters of blood it has a similar effect .

I dont sleep longer than 2 hours at a time on good nights , on bad nights its not longer than 45 minute sessions one after another . Lack of sleep fucks your intelligence . I`ve read that it can reduce it by 10% = so your as clever as an ape . I can say from my experience that when i sleep very badly i cant think straight and that when i sleep better i`m in a better mood and can grasp things straight away .

For me a person who plays with their health doesnt respect themselves and is punishing themselves . First get healthy and then take a good dose of mushrooms .

I agree with caduceus .

Sleep deprivation can be harmful but you probably won't be able to stay awake long enough. I think the record is around 11 days.

And you don't get psychotic after 24 hours, it takes way longer to get detached from reality. You do get kinda 'funny' after 1 or 2 days though.
And you only need one good night of sleep to recover, not months.

If you just want to know what happens, there has been some research in that field. You don't really have to do it yourself. Apparantly it get's real hard to stay awake after a few days without anyone helping you.

I didn't sleep since 1945...
eating bread crusts gives you hair on your chest.
And hair on your chest gives you immunity against alcohol.

sleep is essencial to the human being . sleep deprivation can drive anyone to insanity and eventually death under poor nutrition .

it was used as a torture method in many occasions.

But, a voluntary experiment, assuming that ones objective is to be a little more insane, tired, and disconnected from the world, can have its positive results.

Sleep deprivation is probably the «trip» that is more affected by the set.

If you spend your usual hours of sleep in your room , with nothing too do , except read and/or write, listen to music. You really have waaay to much time to think ALONE, and this is the trigger to madness.

If you spend your sleep deprived night with friends talking and laughing. wandering in the street, you wont notice much except exhaustion.

Please explain your coments and their relevance to what i said Mr.Smith .
