my favourite dutch phrase is "roken is dodelig" (I don't know how it's written exactly). I just love it. dodelig ^^. or "te huur" is funny too, I laughed my ass off when I saw this the first time

dodelijk = "dodelig"/"dumm" in German.

(roken is dodelijk => smoking is stupid)

Just sounds extremly funny

"te huur" -> phonetically very close to "die hure" for German speaking ppl.
(die hure -> the bitch, actual meaning of te huur: for hire)

I think dodelijk means "tödlich" or, in english, "deadly". not stupid. or did you see a warning on cigarettes which said that smoking is stupid?

I think the main word you should remember is : LEKKER
Say it to a girl and you're fine, say it in a bar, in a restaurant, in a smartshop or coffeeshop and shout it on the on the street

You're totally right about the English: "even better" is the correct translation. But "even better" is "noch besser" in German. Which was my point. And I was drunk (which is always a good excuse).

You know, a good thing about the Dutch language is (yea there are some good things about it ), some words are actually spoken in exactly (or almost) the same way as in English. Like the following:

- Drugs
- Sex
- Beer
- Weed ("wheet")
- Film

Though Dutch people speak reasonably English.. So you can make yourself understandable I think..

I had fun with the 'te huur' sign with my German neighbours last summer on Graspop (belgium) wich is also a nice festival to attend, if you're around.

So my dutch line:
Waar is hier ergens een retevet festival in de buurt?
Wahr is heer airguns un ray-teh-fat festival in duh bú-rt?

Oh yes, it's still going to be a while though. The last time I was over there was 10 years ago, I was 15 and with my mom and aunt, so I didn't really get to see the sights I was interested in. The wife and I are planning a 3 week tour of europe, probably not until august of next year. We're trying to get our finances in order, this trip is going to be celebrating the fact that I will have finally paid off my student college loans.

No more debt!!! Yeeeeaaaah!!!
