because poker is to a certain extent a strategy game.
What's the rest of it? Luck? Enough free time to keep playing it? A strong desire to get money?

Sorry, mate, no time. I'm gonna eat some shrooms tonight. Priorities first...

dude its sounds like thousands of banners finally managed to brain wash you to a point where you think internet poker is a good source of income

poker is luck.
2 weeks ago I took 4 grams of muchrooms went to a bar to meet some friends. When i got there they hit me :D (the mushrooms) so I'm tripping in the bar so far so good.
Then my friends came whit the plan to go to a pokergame at someguys home.
I'm like fine, lets go. We got there playing whit 16 people on 2 tables everybody putted 10 euro in the pot.

The first 3 hands i played where like hell i couldn't focus for longer than 30 sec. I started thinking WTF am I doing here I'm in no state to play poker  my friend who was sitting next to me noticed I was on a other planet and asked me if I was on shrooms cause I looked a little distracted...... :)

After a couple of hands I got my focus back and started winning hand after hand when they combined the 2 tables I was chipleader whit a massive stack.

Then I felt that the trip was getting to an end. Cause I was chipleader everybody started playing all or nothing poker, going all in before the flop whit a 7 and 8 offsuited I had a pair of 10 in my hand and lost bad luck. I had some more bad luck but i played good poker. At the end I came in 4th place (3th place 40 euro) empty handed.........

It was a nice experiment cause i always wanted to know if I could do something like this while tripping whitout other people who don't know me, noticing.

But still thanks for the invitation but I prefer real life poker so I can "read" my opponent.

it is not luck. it is a matter of reading people well and minimizing risk.

but i'd rather do something else.

I also believe the luck part is minimal.

Depending on the context, any hand is playable.

This is a comercial advert of the worst kind .

Poker is mostly luck and the rest is money and if you dont see that get some experience and get a brain . Its a trick for loosers . You can not win . Gambling is an adiction on the same level as heroin adiction .

The house is the only real winner.

I hope you washed your hands afterwards ?

ever heard something of mathematics?? probability??? i haven't said it was easy (depends which limits you are playing) or "guaranteed winning" or something... of course you can lose with aces against 23 offsuited, but statistically if you let these hands play against each other 100 times, the aces will win in average 86 times and lose 14 times...
well... but the game is also a matter of psychology and knowing the opponents and adjusting your play to them... i kind of like it, because it requires things like discipline, skill in thinking on multiple levels, observation and not least of all concentration.

moreover i'm not telling you to play with your own money, instead get some for free to try it out. also i am not talking about gambling... sure you can gamble in poker, but you'd probably only like to do that if you want to burn your money. if not, you could try to understand the game and play it right.

and i guess you can become addicted to everything, but the point of the strategy site is to play poker reasonably and to that belongs of course that you watch your behaviour and don't play over your bankroll (=money you have for poker) like playing a 10 $ tournament if you have only 50 $ ... in addition you would also watch how much you play and set yourself limits etc.

why so offended...as if there was an obligation or anything?? i am not trying to trick you you or telling you shit and you are free to decide what to do for yourself.

my apologies if it didn't come across like that...

peace

I think the major issue here is that this topic seems like a big add, I even first thought that you got your account hijacked by someone who was now using it to promote his website.

BrainEater , i didnt want to critisize you . I said what i said because its true and because i dont want to watch young people fall into the gambling trap .

I have years of experience of gambling . From playing cards to horse racing to the casino . I stole from everyone i could . I went out breaking into churches / houses / rooms that people were in !!!!! ....... Get in through a window and search the pockets of the people lying in bed in the same room . When i gambled i lost , so did everybody else i ever met gambling . As Pariah said the house never looses , it always wins .

Poker is unique from other casino games because you don't play against the house, but against other players. The house collects a small fee called "rake" from every hand that yields a pot of a certain size.
This is the only way the house makes money of their poker tables! And of course, the more hands played pr. hour, the more tables in operation, the more money the house makes.

But that does not change the fact that over time, poker IS a game of skill and NOT one of chance! It might not matter is you visit a casino once a year, but for the huge number of people who play poker for a living online, and go thru several thousands of hands a day, it's a law as certain as gravity.

It is important to remember that the games they show on TV is tournament poker. This is where the dashing "all-in's" and huge stacks of chips change hands ever so often. Because of the drama (and some of the characters  ) you find in this segment of poker it has the most entertainment value and of course it's a good way of advertising for a particular poker house or room as it is called online. You did notice the huge "partyPoker" or "PokerStars" banners everywhere  ?

Most games are so called “fixed limit cash games

The pregnant all telling question is :- How much have you lost and how much have you "won" ?

The pregnant all telling question is :- How much have you lost and how much have you "won" ?

Hehe, forgot about that one 8) I was, what is refered to as an break even player.
Made money on fixed limit cash games, but failed to adapt when moving into tournamentplay and took some heavy losses there.

In the end I just got really sick of spending whole days infront of the pc. Also I have a really hard time keeping my attention span up over time and that was a big issue, especially at fixed limit where game play get extremely tedious over time.

sorry to deceive ya god, but i have made quite a bunch of money with it :) ... until last december i was playing breakeven, but in january i first made 3000 euros out of 200 euro in 2 weeks and after nearly losing it all again (stupidness) i have in january total winnings of like 3500 euro... finished many multi-table tournaments in 2nd and 3rd, which gave me some nice winnings, however i am going for the first places soon... when i make the next 5k i can probably donate something to psychonaut as well...

peace :weedman:
