peyote's skin is cracking

need some help with this. it has been around for some months, but today i noticed it worse. is this normal or have i done anything wrong ? it seems healthy, no ?
any opinions will be welcomed!

how many times a month do you water it? and do you use fertilizer? have seen a similar thing before, but it was a bit difrent.

i water it when the soil is dry (i test it with a toothpick). maybe once or twice a week, but it could be 3 times, since i don't count it, i just water when is dry. i don't use any fertilizer. i have another peyote a bit larger in the same conditions and it is fine.
my thoughts is that the peyote is growing fast...like a pregnant woman's belly! but i want to make sure, so i posted.

The case that I saw before was also when a peyote started to grow too fast in spring, this could very well be the case with your peyote. the peyote sucks itself full of water and then just bursts out of its skin, but later there will be some scar tiseu and sometimes the scars go away in a few years. perhaps you should water it a bit less.

Man first yours cacti is not getting enough water. This can I see from 10 meters away.

Second have you maybe replant it? This kill little but the most important roots. If you have replanted it the soil level must, BUT MUST be at the same level. Only one cm per 2 years can be added. And this is near limit of fast growing conditions. Meaning home growing

And third which cause this and YOU will say that I am right. After long day on the sun with 40 degrees on sun or even more yours cacti is HOT, so HOT. Try tomorrow how hot it is. And than you put cool water(SOO COOOOOLD) on this hot stone. And what is result-cracking. Water your cacti at evening or early in morning and try to water the soil not cacti cause later water will vaporise and soft skin (like yours hand when are enough time in water suck water and enlarge) and cacti to but hot sun vaporise it tooo fast and skin can't hold it on all together. And CRACKING comes. AM I right bout watering the hot stone? Be careful in future :wink: 8)

i am not sure that i understood the second point. please explain again...
but i've watered them very much, that's why i don't understand that this is water-shortage.
you are right about the cold water and hot stone. i've been watering them when it's hot. i'll begin to water them in the morning before i go to work.
do you think that this cracks are dangerous - could get a disease or a fungus, or something thru it ?
i have a bigger peyote near this fellow, and i have been giving this treatment to both of them, and only this peyote has cracks. they arrived at the same time, but i guess the other one is a year older. i will follow your advice and keep a close eye on this cracks. thank you so much for your time and opinion, you have been a great help.

edit: i have replanted it three or four months ago. i just don't understand what you mean by the soil level...

Watering is not problem. Problem is when you are putting water on cacti and when( meaning time) This is not over watered cacti. This cacti needs water (not enough water when I look it ) but try put the water with syringe directly on soil not on cacti like rain. And water it with warm water!! This is what you have done similar to heated stone and than putted in cold water. And what happens- Stone cracks. ANd this wound on plant will heal in max 3 weeks if you do not again put water(cold) on cacti directly. Got it. :?:

i got it.
the thing is... i don't water my cactus like rain, i water them from beneath. i fill the plate with water and the soil sucks it up. perhaps it is too cold. i will fix this problem.
but can you say what you meant with the soil level ? you got me curious.

When you repotting cacti upper level of soil must be as it were before. Never expose more cacti than it was before cause you will fry yours upper part of roots. The one that is near green button-fat root from green tissue grows out. And lower part, inside of new pot must be exactly as it was before. Cause if you put cacti in big pot with deep layer of earth beneath roots, roots will start to expand and button will stop to grow. You can lose one to one and half year cause this. Replanting is OK but only what you are trying to archive is wider pot not deeper. Ask me if you do not understand but tomorrow will get answers cause I am going to suck some absinthe and beer with buddy's. 8)

i got it. thank you for your explanations, i have learned from it. never expose the roots and transplant with the same soil into a wider pot. nice tips! i will do as you say for a month. i will continue to water it with warm water, because you say it is not over-watering. then i'll post the pics in this post. (i'll try to remember)

I think that if he was thirsty for mescaline he would not grow peyote =)
they might be potential but not that fast in growth

This was only the funny joke. Friend that is getting this know what I mean. And who normal and sane grow Peyotes for hunger. I left that project some years from now. But (there is always BUT) everyone with enough patience can try that little green stone.

I`m growing 5 myself as u have seen the picture
I dont really feel the hunger to try them .. I never really started growing mescaline cactus for consumption .. since that will take 15 years or so ... untill I would eat them
I more felt like growing them because I like having them around
when I wanna trip i`ll just buy some mesc from someone.. but my own babies ?? naaah

But (there is always but) I have not regret when I try my cacti that was 23or24 years old (9 pieces). After that I feel little bit sad but when spirit of San Pedro El Peyote come up with three new buttons which grow five times more quicker than seedlings I understand that my steps only give me more than sustaining from trying it. If you are sure in yours steps and going up, past and emotional connection will only grow and never turn back on you. You will see. 8)

OK, but who today have mescalin tabs or powder-pure crystals??? I also would like to try that way so my cacti will stay untouched.
