I have nightmares most nights . Most of them are recuring themes and it pisses me off BAD . I believe there must be a point , something to learn but i dont know what . I dont know any other way to get rid of them or to stop them . I just want to sleep good so i can get some bennefit from it . So i`ll spill the beans here and would apreciate any coments , interpretations and advice . Please be frank and dont think i will shoot you down . I apreciate your thoughts or i wouldnt have asked you .

I dont want the thread to be just about me so please talk about your nightmares to .

Last night i woke up because someone was knockimg at my door . I went silently to the door and looked carefully through one of the window panes wich is about 20 X 20 cms . As i did a hand broke the window grabbed me by the throat and started to choke me . I tried to pull away , tried to twist it and hit it but nothing worked . Then i saw the bits of broken glass still in the window frame and realised that my only chance was to rotate my head / throat from left to right and up and down so the glass would cut him . I had to do it till his hand was cut off . It was frightening and disgusting consciously slowly amputating someones hand .

I woke up because someone big had jumped on my back and was giving me a bear hug with one arm around my throat . It was like having a big heavy tight rucksack on my back .I tried to get him off but i couldnt . In the end i had to elbow him in the guts over and over while jumping backwards around the room so he kept getting bounced of the walls and the door posts for 5 minutes .

All the time in both dreams i was thinking who is it , why is he doing it to me . how did he he get in , how did i get in this sittuation and i dont want to have to hurt someone bu i know that i`ll have to .

That was episode one . I will post several more as they ocure .

Hmm interesting :D

I guess most dreams can be seen symbollically. Probably your brain sets the symbols or something else does so you should understand it if you think about it. But many times the reasons for the hidden messages in the dreams isn't hidden without a purpose.

There is something to learn in the way of discovering the purpose of the dream.

Roughly i would say in your dreams you deal with your fear of being attacked or being harrassed or that someone breaks into your house and of course the life-threat-fear.

Of course i see as well the fear of the unknown stranger killer and how you described it and the fact that you fought him represents for me that you want to do something to change something, but you don't want to be violent or harm other people in different ways.

I guess i have similar fears. Unfortunately i can't recall a nightmare now so that i will have to wait to post it until i remember.

I remember attributes of some nightmares though . Most of the times a nightmare is something where i feel extreme fear, but can't do anything about it or it is very hard to do something. I had dreams where i couldn't move, but thought i had to move but couldn't what sometimes brought the extreme feeling of terror. Also i recall being "stuck" somewhere.
The worst fear i experienced in nightmares was that i wanted something to be like this or like that, but some sort of whatever in the dream made it impossible and that was horror. hard to explain but it's weird really. because you got to assume it's your dream (when you realize you're dreaming) but something else controls it without yourself knowing it. (the something might be the brain ?? :weedman:)

peace.

Try to do different things in reoccuring dreams. It's hard but try some lucid dreaming tricks first. If you dream your being followed by an evil entity, just turn around and face it. Mostly it's just an inocent being there and you laugh :)

The choking could point to something or someone in your life suffocating you. The fact that you hesitantly fight it can mean that you either aren't conscious of this suffocation or that it is something or someone you depend on for your wellbeing. This something could also be a part of yourself that you cannot or will not accept, as the face of the danger is never really visible (right?).

This is just my association with it...

My advice is to write them down as quickly as possible after waking, associate freely around the themes. What do they remind you of? Do you encounter them in your waking life? What feelings do they bring about? Etc.

I have no recent experience with nightmares, just remember having a few in my childhood (don't remember the content, though). So I guess you are the one who can most clearly see what is going on.

Hmmm, someone here (I think it was druglessdouglas?) recently said something memorable about dreaming: everyone you meet in your dreams is you! Pretty true... so maybe you're strangling yourself somehow? I mean there is not only one "you", everyone has different selfes on different unconscious levels, and one of them might be strangling you.

I'm under the impression that I tend to understand my nightmares better (or even: they became less threatening) the more I had been tripping, especially on mushrooms. Mushroom trips always tend to give me that kind of "uh oh, not really know if I like this weird place" feeling that I always knew from dark dreams (not necessarily nightmares, but weird, darkish and scary dreams that I am having relatively often). These dreams are always more on the psycho-fear level than on the direct-threat-level. Like I'm in weird, spooky houses and keep on losing things and people, and then not being able to get back where I need to, not knowing what else to do and the walls come on closing in on me. Something like that. Of course the sun never shines in these dreams, it's always nightish grey (not really night, which would be more beautiful...). I never get where I want to go while everyone else seems to be perfectly comfy with the situation. I guess it's just a mirror of how displaced I often feel in reality...

A few days ago I also had this kind of terror-threat like nightmare where I was in the ocean, facing a shark. I can remember thinking to myself that now I needed to show strength and face the shark. I looked him in the eye and wholeheartedly moved towards him. The last thing I know before waking up was that I thought "uh oh! Now I'm shitting my pants!" I guess in reality the shark would've smelled the fear and tore me apart ;)
The fun thing about it was that I remembered this dream when I was watching a docu on sharks the next day...

especially, if you don't see any faces...

but then again. today, anonymity is very common, so it could be someone you know, but have never seen...

it sounds like a conflict. like an inner struggle. a burden, bad conscious, fear.
maybe its being overwhelmed with life as such without being able to do anything about it, except if you start hurting (yourself or others).

how long do you have this dream now? what happened in the time they started?

If you think about it again, you'll see that it couldn't be anybody else. It can only be someone you are making up in your mind. That's essentially you, and not someone else! ;)

imagining something, does not make it yourself. it is you who creates, but as soon as it is created, it is part of the reality and thus real. sure, reality is a very personal matter and in that sense we are all solipsists.

it's too confusing saying everything you see is yourself, because then it would be kind of hard to distinguish between you and the other you, but of course you are the "I", so it becomes a problem of objectivity, as soon as an objective observer comes in.

maybe it would be an advantage to use language in a more unambigious way....

peace.

which is, sadly, a complete paradox :D

ha!!! it isn't!!!! i haven't said that it is easy though.... only problem is that words have different meanings for different people....

^Keep talking to yourself then!

nightmares normally occur when your stressed about something in your life. i guess when you focus on something negative it becomes your adversary. your enemy. humans anthropomorphosise everything.
