Can anyone drop some titles of movies that are a must top watch on psychedelics?

I'd say Ghost in the Shell 1 and 2 are definatly recommended, also the Animatrix, Waking Life, and a Scanner Darkly are very good.

Also Blade Runner, the Fifth Element and ofcourse Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
The BBC documentaries Life, and Planet Earth are simply amazing to watch on mushrooms.Aswell as Baraka, and Naqoyqatsi, Koyaanisqatsi and Powaqqatsi although these can be very strange to watch.

I wouldn't recommend Louis de Funes, i watched this weird little character at work in Le Gendarme de Saint-Tropez on a strong acid trip, this is madness. :P This was years ago, but when i think about it the theme song kicks in my head to stay there in a loop once again. tududulululu Saint Tropez.

Wich ones did wonders for you? i'm curious.

I watched AniMatrix on mushrooms once, especialy the second renaissance parts 1&2 sacred the living daylights out of me but I couldn't stop watching.

Speedracer is a good one while tripping, al those amazing colors. That is if you can stomach the super sweet moral......

Jay and Silent Bob, yeahy.

heheh, i just watched the trailer of Speedracer, not your typical psymovie but i do understand how much fun this could be on psychedelics, it looks like a fun family movie, the visuals are a perfect match for my mushrooms indeed, thx, i'm gonna watch this saturday on my trip. :P
Don't mind the sweet moral once in a time, usually i hate it, but it can be a healing experience once in a while i guess. :)

It's been over 6 months since i last tripped on shrooms BTW, looking so forward to it.

I've watched Dark City once when i did a small amount of lucy. It's not recommended :p
The documentary "Microscosm, le peuple de l'herbe" is nice, it's about insects and other arthropodes. Theres only music and vision, no voice-over in this docu . Though, the quality isn't the same as the BBC documentaries like planet earth
Also, smiley face is a good movie you could watch on psychedelics. Its about a girl who eats a bunch of spacecakes and she is mellow during the whole movie.. there isn't any meaning in this film, it's more some kind of comedy.
Or you could watch Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, it's a strange movie.
or the first Cheech and Chong movie, the one with the scene in the car, lold with that one, but it's an old movie.
or Memento
or Pans Labyrinth, really nice !
or Amélie Poulain, nice atmosphere in it
...
and lot's of others that i forget now..

edit: What do you think is important to consider a movie good for psychedelics?
atmosphere? vision? mindfuck? absurdity? ... ?

Hahah, Dark City huh?
I love that movie, but i wouldn't watch it on acid though.

To answer your question, it depends on the type of psychedelic, on acid i like to watch fun movies, comedies, and sometimes deeper stuff, but it's not always easy to follow a movie on acid for me, it quickly get's very chaotic and i tend to loose focus, depends on the dose too ofcourse.

Nature documentaries are always great on mushrooms, i love that, it takes me right there in the movie itself.

I love the visual part of a trip very much, mindfucks not so, same goes for absurdity, things get absurd by itself on acid, but i do enjoy Fear and Loathing for some odd reason, it's just a great movie. :)

I'd say atmosphere and visuals are very important on psychedelics, and humor is probably the most important, i wouldn't watch stuff like The Pianist, or something on psychedelics, some lame family movie works too.

Imaginarium of Dr.Parnassus or whatever...

That's a pretty psychodelic movie.

I was sober and the character changes tripped me the fuck out!

Oh man, it's funny you mentioned this.
I had the movie next to me when i tripped last weekend, but decided to go for 2 of some of my all time trip-favorites, wich are Animatrix and A Scanner Darkly. They never fail to satisfy!

I planned to watch the one you mentioned (i love Depp, superb actor), but i kept repeating Scanner somehow, there are so much cool scenes in it, sometimes i can't get enough of the funnyness or dialogues, and thus keep repeating those parts untill i'm completely saturated again. :P I tend to do this with Fear and Loathing too, i think i know that movie on top of my head by now.

But thanks for the recommendation, i'm gonna watch it, but probably sober first, when i saw Animatrix for the first time i was tripping pretty hard, and i have to admit, is was .....hectic, to put it mildly.

Waking life starring Wiley Wiggens

The Nines starring Ryan Reynolds

Excalibur (from 1981, best merlin ever!)

Avatar

those are the main ones that come to mind and are all very synched into the realm of tripping. :-D

Good suggestions, I can 2nd most of them!

HWY: An American Pastoral would be nice on mushrooms or with acid, if you can dig it. It was an experimental film with Jim Morrison :D

Naked Lunch (by David Cronenberg after the Novel by William Burroughs)

The City of Lost Children (by Marc Caro and Jean-Pierre Jeunet)

Other worlds (documentary on ayahuasca shamanism by Jan Kounen)

Blueberry (a psychedelic Western also by Jan Kounen)

The Doors (biographical movie about The Doors and Jim Morrison by Oliver Stone)

I forgot: Brazil (by Terry Gilliam)

I might add that none of these movies are enjoyable on a full-blown trip (I think no movie is). They are however quite nice to watch when you're coming down from a good trip, and you can't sleep. That's at least how I enjoyed Naked Lunch, Brazil, and Blueberry :)
The others I watched sober, but they are all a trip of their own.

Shamanita a dit:

FFS, I just remembered by reading this that I actually watched this movie, but I can't remember when and how (I was extremely tripped at the time).

Still, I remember that it was a great experience.

the matrix, ghost in the shell, waking life, blade runner, the fifth element, fear and loathing in las vegas, animatrix, eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, memento, pans labyrinth, amelie, naked lunch, city of lost children, and brazil i've personally found to be really really moving stories.

as far as stuff we haven't mentioned... i <3 huckabees, the american astronaut, hero, tai chi master, donnie darko, drunken master (1 & 2), fight club, the life aquatic with steve zissou, Pi, taxi driver, cowboy bebop (movie as well as the series), the manchurian candidate (based on a true story), american history x, the hudsucker proxy, the big lebowski, eXistenZ, they live, and delicatessen, were all movies that really changed my perspective on life. and i highly recommend ALL of them to anyone who considers themselves a movie enthusiast, if you haven't seen them already

Aqua Teen Hunger Force was totally made for Acid. Also, you should check out Superjail and Rob Zombie's cartoon feature The Haunted World of El Super Beasto.

Science of sleep, altered states (first half)

Science of Sleep was fucked up dude... And I was just stoned when I watched it.

Enemy Mine would be interesting to watch. It's not a mindfuck or anything, but I think most any good sci-fi is synergistic with psychedelics  Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within would be nice too, and any movie by Hayao Miyazaki (especially Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind).
