Light Sterilization in Glovebox (UV/LED)

Well, I'm no carpenter but it's possible and seems accurate (it's a very smooth surfaced wood). I had just typed up a semi-lengthy response and hit the wrong key, changing pages and losing the whole bit. Needless to say I'm irritated and don't remember the whole thing nor do I want to type it up again if I did so I've come down to two options I'd like some opinions on.

Either I could sand it down and get a semi-thick plastic or possibly tarp, and smoothly apply it to the interior using epoxy

orrr

I could sand it down and find some sort of finish that would waterproof it, much like people do to their decks.

Thing is, I'm not sure if the first one will somehow get mold underneath (dark, wet, warm...carcinogenic glue haha) and I'm not sure how the melamine will take the finish and if either one will efficiently keep in moisture and warmth while protecting the wood from mold or rot.

any ideas/opinions?

hehe, ive done the lenghy reply/wrong button thing myself

neither polythene nor pvc tarp will bond to epoxy.

a few coats of water resistant gloss paint?

the melamine is moisture resistant i think, its where it meets the wood moisture causes problems. perhaps silicone sealant over the joints?

oh wow ok, now I see what your saying. got slightly confused there for a moment. well i busted up the bottom drawer so i could put a couple drops of water on that and see what happens. if it's all good and there is no absorbtion then I can seal up the sides and be good to go I suppose. Another alternative, although rather pricey for me, would be to drill a layer of plexiglass on the inside. A second skin of sorts made entirely of a thin layer of plexiglass drilled into place would, in my opinion, be a sure fire solution although a bit pricey as I already am ordering a couple sheets to cut up and make a glove box out of.

oh and the reason I busted the drawer up is so i could have more room under the wardrobe. I saved the front piece of the drawer so I could put it on a set of hinges with a magnet on the tip of it so i can still open and close it, just not how you'd expect too. I have an infrared heat source used for reptile terrariums that screws into a light bulb socket and was going to cut a hole in the middle of the floor of the main section, essentially creating a 6 or so inch airway between the bottom drawer and the wardrobe itself and placing the heater in the bottom drawer connected to a thermostat. Haven't really worked out the ventilation system yet but I don't think it will be too difficult.

By the way, sorry for all my long posts. Not a whole let else to do really. Between a retarded, self-centered, boss and our grand economy in the straights that it is, my girlfriend and I have effectively lost both our jobs in a 48 hour period and yet are still employed. She cannot be scheduled due to a misunderstanding in payroll, and my hours have been slashed beyond repair. Thus, we are employed, and yet...not.

So after applying everywhere in town, here I sit. Hoping she gets the job at her interview Monday and reading up on some mycology. :P

oh and i'm attaching a picture of said wardrobe.

I take it you want to try to water proof your cupboard so that you cam have a humidity of 90 % or so in it so you can fruit your mushrooms in it ?

First . Its best to start small and build yourself a glove box from something like perspex or glass = a fish tank sort of thing that can stand the disinfectant and be easily wiped off . You can then easily make the glove box into a multi purpose glove box / fruiting chamber . If you use the whole cupboard to fruit in your going to have enough mushrooms for a whole city every year . The books you have havent got any information about fish tanks or similar as fruiting chambers in them have they ? If you find the PF Tek in the net it shows you how to make a fruiting chamber very easily . That will also explain easy ways to heat the whole thing , to provide air and to provide a little light . The ligh or a fish tank heater will provide enough warmth .

The idea with deck paint or water proof paint is OK but it wont last long , especialy if you leave any cracks / spaces or open joints . The lineing the whole thing with perspex / glass , remember the steriliser test , will produce a professional grow area .

So better not start right away , first suss the PF tek , have some thoughts and then ask questions again .
