Im pretty sure the temperature of my house is alot lower than what it needs to be for my PF jars, any suggestions on how to keep them warm?

I would suggest using heat-pads used in incubators, or even an electric blanket, alot cheaper and more durable than say an electric radiator.
Another method which is more useful later on in the fruiting period, is using a heating-element used in fish-tanks, submerged in a layer of water with the casingtrays or rice-cakes indirectly above it, it creates a nice warm and humid environment which is favorable after the jars have colonized, there are some tek's that use this setup and are discribed in great detail, I recommend you search for it or maybe someone can give you a link or a more comprehensive explaination :p
All this though, is probably not so useful if it get's 'really' cold in there, like below 15C/59F.
I have to keep it at this, gotta fly! Good luck :!:

Get a thermometer and test it !!!!!!

If you feel comfortable it cant be very cold but still maybe not enough for proper growth .

Electricity , water and stoned hippys dont mix .

Test the temperature and put the box on top of a cupboard in the warmest room . Or put it on top of your TV or computer .

You can get heatpads from stores for old people / geriatrics as back warmers , or car seat heaters . Dont buy from scene shops and websites as they are usualy very expensive . Put the mat under the box on top of a few news papers but not touiching it . Then maybe put a big towel over it all . You will get the tempersature you need . If you live in a cold area try growing Psilocybe Cyanescens and fruiting them outdoors . Or dont grow in winter grow in sommer .

GOD a dit:

You can use an aquarium heater as well to heat water which in turn heats the jars/cakes and humidifies. I haven't got experience with this method but they generally have pretty good accuracy and are cheap. Aquarium stores aren't watched by the DEA, too.

But maybe think about it . Outdoor mushrooms dont need help do they ? The only reason a lot of people have problems is because they are using a realy dumb method and have to keep compensation for their methods weeknesses .

Kep it simple and as close to nature as possible and your mushrooms will be your friend .

So you need to get a mushroom that will grow in your own climate.

Is this off topic ?

Candida albicans grows everywhere why not try that........

Does this have to do with the green socks?

Maybe the socks arent green maybe its Candida albicans stuck to white ones ?

What psilocybe mushroom species do you all think is best for growing in temperate climates (Europe, US, Canada)?

Ah! An atempt to get things back on topic . As CM said things are usualy answered in the first few posts.............

Ps. Cyanescens it is.

What about Ps. Azurescens? Any advantage/disadvantage to this species?

On top of the fridge at the backside... Fridges produce heat which is released at the back and then goes up. A few degrees warmer over there...

Azurescens/cyanescens... I know a guy who has mycelium of both in his garden (in the Netherlands by the way). Same circumstances > already had 2 flushes of azurescens, no cyanescens yet. No clue unfortunately why...

^I know a person who has cyanescens in his garden and they flourish. I have heard of azurescens failing as well. I guess it might just be a bad spot or a mistake made during the process.

But we dont block the air from escaping / changeing from the air outlets or the back of the fridge . Air has to flow freely or the fridge will get to hot , cost a lot and fuck up .

thanks for adding that...

I got the same problem,
its just to cold in my room to grow mushrooms.
I'll wait until spring and I'm back in the magic world
of mushroom growing :D

If you put your incubater , jars or fish tank in a cupboard or wardrobe with a light bulb in it it will probably reach the right temperature . I used to use two small flourescent tubes about 50 cms long and got the nesecery heat easily .

After our gas ran out one once, while I had mycelium growing, it went below 5°C in house (no shitting)
We had to wait till new gas was delivered

(for the dutch speaking people, not gas but mazoet, i don' tknow the english word for it)

After that incident I bought a heated mat and it works very well!

Ohter mushroom breeders work with a tub in tub.
With a aqaurium heater and thermostat. For mycelium they place it on 30°C and for shrooms lower, somewhere between 20 a 22°C

So when you have a cold house, the tub in tub (with a thermostat heater) will never let you down. A heated mat works as well, but not perfectly, so you might wanna make extras in case one falls off.
