help with trimming

ive heard alot of different ideas for trimming and training growing plants, do you encourage trimming or not.?

mate said if u trim branches off at connection to stem were bud grows, it will grow up stem as one big bud.???
do the buds themselves need any light at all really, or just the leaves.??
but ive also been told to not trim anything?

ive nearly got a full hydro kit and would like some tips please. i have grown outdoors, and in cupboards and now onto hydro.

should i trim in hydro?

Research "Fimming" and "Topping". I think that's what you're referring to. These are two ways to get more colas (bud-heavy tops). However, I suggest researching "SCROG" and "SOG" (Sea of Green). These are better in my opinion as most indoor grows are limited by space so this guarantees more per square foot of production.

Also, with Screens of Green, there's no real top to the plant as they begin growing sideways meaning there's a few cola's providing for more buds. If you can pull it off, it beats trimming and topping.

Trimming a plant could stress it and will stress it for sure if it is in flower, As Darkwolf said scrog net and bending is probably your best way to go. Another term to research is, Super Cropping
