Hi! I have a mexican growkit that i bought in amsterdam. I started growing them and everything was going right. i went away for 2 days and when i came back they were in the "too late" state of the instructions pic. I fear they may be infected. The top of the substracte is black/purple, and the mushies heads are totally opened and starting to become black. I know that these are the spores, but -i wonder if is okay to eat them now, and to grow again.

please help me. thks

If there isn't any mold or other kind of infection, they're okay to eat. If there are a lot of spores on the shrooms, you can try to wipe some of it off.

Mycelium that has spores landed on top of it doesn't tend to fruit so easily anymore, but there's no harm in trying.

It's when the heads are all opened up that I find them disgusting to eat.I don't even like eating the heads. Most of the time I keep all the stems for me and give away the heads to friends. They're happy and I'm even happier. Most of the actives are in the stem and it's much easier to eat than gross disgusting heads.

Hmm... That is in contradiction at least with shroomery's page about the subject:

I have also seen sources that claim that there is no significant difference in the alkaloid concentration between the caps and the stems (but if my memory isn't failing me, they didn't have any scientific data presented to back this up). You wouldn't happen to remember the source for your information?
