growing mushroom

hello my friends i want to grow shrooms in my house for personal consumption.

I'm thinking of buying a growbox from azarius - http://www.azarius.net/product1_2_1_gro ... ensis.html - has anyone tried it?

How should i keep it? I'm thinking of making an acrylic box in which i'll put 1 or 2 growboxes inside. Should the shrooms receive direct light, such as flourescent tube with low power 11w inside the box or not? any ideas?

heey I'm starting this weekend growing shrooms, in an aquarium. really excited ofcourse. but ehm... no you shouldn't put them in direct sunlight, but you can put a lamp above it an you have to make sure the light comes from above. but with the growbox you will order will be a guide aswell wich explanes all this.

The shrooms from the growbox are pretty good (stronger than the fresh stropharia you can buy at azarius or elsewhere).

Growing is pretty easy and even if you don't get the full potential the first time you still get enough shrooms that it's more than worth the money (compared to buying fresh shrooms)

They don't need 24h direct light, but some light provided by a fluorescent tube (for example) tells the mycelium that it's time to fruit and gives the shrooms a logical direction to grow to.

so how much hours per day should they receive light? there are flurescent tubes with anti-microbe properties should i buy ojne of these or a regular one? im asking because on the pamplhet it says that the shroom growing medium jshould be kept microbe free...

they should get around 10 hours of light a day, well that's what most say, some say 12 would be better, some say 8.

That they get - a little - light is important . Find out the day length of the season that they fruit naturaly in and give them that .
And forget everything you know about light and growing grass .

i tried to grow shrooms with a friend of mine but the two boxes (we made them with rice because i read that it's a good culture medium) just got moldy... smelly, ugly, yellow mold!
i was very sad... but fortunately there still is the benison of the internet where you can order shrooms

And it's growing really good. Almost time to harvest

I think it's all not that important, I just grew my mushrooms in a box with microwave foil on top of it, no artificial light on them at all, really. Try to grow your own mushrooms from spores next time, it is much cheaper and much more fun!

Mushrooms do need light, but not like plants do. They are happy egnough if they get ca 12 hours indirect light. So that means you can but your shrooms almost anywhere in the room where there is light.
