Regarding the bull sculpture posted by bananapancake, that sculpture is called "What You See Might Not Be Real" by Chen Wenling representing exactly what a bull market (actual economics term for a share market during a large upswing) based on bullshit can do to the evil (man with devil horns) of consumerism. A truly inspired visual representation of the events that gave rise to the Enron collapse and the recent Global Financial Crisis.
Interestingly the word for "fart" in Chinese (fang pi) in slang means to bluff or lie.
These are Netsuke
Netsuke is a japanese art where they create 'toggles' for kimono obi's and obi is basically the belt that is wrapped around a kimono, a netsuke attaches to a cord which hangs down from the obi to attach things like a purse or sagemono (a small box for a pipe or whatever miscellaneous items)
A netsuke is usually very small from around 1to 3 inches around
Im going to a workshop in october to learn how to make these (none of mine will ever reach this level of workmanship however!)
Thats really cool
ive always liked the idea of a community art project
kinda like this concrete table in the town i grew up in, everyone would sit there at some point and graffiti something into it, either random stuff or replying to each other, stuff like that
i think its awesome
theres an old abandoned building but sits on a very busy street. I'm going to gather about 15 different colors of paint (from friend's basements) and create a rainbow like effect by dripping the paint over the sides of the exterior walls (from the roof).
Yes man, I've recently been called upon by a newspaper to talk about the graff scene and its been running through my head how horrible egg-shell and sand and off-white is to the human mind.
It's crippling, really, bland bullshit and not a shade of green anywhere. .....
imagine living in a house where all the walls and furniture were shades of grey or just all neutral
not a spot of colour, imagine how disgustingly bland it would be and how boring your thought patterns would possibly become
i would never live in a place like that
so why do we live in a place like that outside of our homes?
