I have 4 exactly the same-azarius plastic jars-cakes , two of them fully colonised. Because my mycelium grew very long time (about 2 months) i will wait a little longer for him to grew nicely to the center of the cake.
Pinning question- i just planed to take cakes on the indirect light, room temperature,i think it isnt nesecery to take cakes out of the jar or is it?

You should get them out because there will be mushrooms forming at the sides

Well here is the thing, my cakes shrinked very much so they are all loosened up in the jar, about few milimeters all around the jar. So when the pins start popping out i should be able to safely remove the cakes from the jars. Im also suspicious about that cobweb mold. Meduzz, did you have any problems with it or being suspicious of it? I am asking cause i think my cakes look a bit like yours, and still i had seen some fuzzy parts during the colonisation that i thought was just mycelium, but now i am not sure anymore. Unfortunately i looked around the net about cobweb little to late cause my cakes are fully colonised... with what? Some mycelium- cobweb mix? I really dont want to throw away all colony...Should birth any or not?

 are you unsulting my cake??
That cake of mine has now fully colonised the casing and is forming a huge amount of nice little pinheads :)

Don't worry about cobweb mold, it grows very fast and is easy to recognise by that

8) Harvested the first flush, looks about 50 grams (from one crumbled cake in casing).

They are small mushrooms but they have something potent about them :)
Bruisings are beautiful dark blue...

Shit!!! I have tried to scratch/wash the part of the cake that i thought was just weak mycelium and it went off! I was faning the cake few times i day! Or maybe litlle wet mycelium can be scratched off? Probably not. Here is a picture. i should toss it out immediately, wright? spores could be all over my bedroom ,fuck! what to do now?

When i birthed it didnt went off and it had pleasant mushroomy smell god dammit! Maybe it is som kind of bacteria?

I dont realy understand what you mean ??? The foto looks OK to me . Please explain again what the problem is ??? And what do you mean by birthing it ? What did you actualy do ???

AND DONT SMELL IT...............

You see the part that is brownish? Well i scratched it cause it looked like-1)not fully colonised center part of the bottom,2) or some whitegrayish mold.It went of a little...What do you think?

By birthing i mean putting it into afruiting chamber/out of jar.

It still doesnt look bad to me . Leave it for a few days and see what happens . But dont touch it or play around with it anymore .

AND DONT SMELL IT................

So you would say that it doesnt look like a contamination to you?

I cant see anything that looks like contamination at the moment . If it spreads or gets more obvious that something is growing that isnt myceleum throw it away . Watch and wait . Even if it is a little something else the mycelium might kill it if you leave it alone . Have patience .

MAYBE YOU SHOULD SMELL IT ?????

It looks ok. When i crumbled my cake it also looked a bit brownish...
All you can do is wait and watch.

AND DON'T SMELL IT, if it's bacteria you can get very sick

edit: ...and you die

hi, i threw ALL my cakes away, cause they had similar signs (and was quite heavily depressed about it) ,i got really paranoid and felt like i have some breathing problems, like heavy breathing, chest pain etc...my cakes were colonising for really long time (about 2.5 months) and it was high possibility that some bacteria-which could not be just a thin mycelium in the middle of bottom of cake- stoped faster growing of mycelium and evolve, get stronger, cause illness. My paranoia started when my relatives started to get ill, and some dickheads/maybe not dickheads on shroomery critisized me, layed some burdon on my back(i posted them the same picture as here), so i said- i will cultivate mushrooms exposing ONLY MYSELF to possible dangers-infections and such. I had left some spores from my first cultivation, 3 months ago. Im searching and will get my own place soon. The problem is that i couldnt hide the spores that i left nowhere els but in attic. It was quite cold there but i suppose that spores all died... Or are they still useful?

Well Damn! All my cakes were infected! (3) :p

I don't know. Well, I had a dog, and my house was always full of hair of it. But she died 2 months ago (I made the 3 cakes while she was alive). Maybe now that the house is more "cleaned", I won't have problems with infection. And next time I won't smell them or look at them so much.

I'll wait for spring, so the enviornment will be more apropriated for them to grow. I'm kind of ancious for my first experience with mushrooms, yet I'm not rushing it on my head. But I'm "always" thinking how it is to Be the Mushroom for some hours :)

Meduzz, congrats for your harvest :)

The wont have died , but they may be the source of your contamination . You can only try again and see what happens . Good luck .

Thje contamination probably didnt come from the dog . It would be better to try to cultivate now rather than wait till spring .

Congratulations , they look nice and healthy .
