I think that if you are completely okay with yourself and with the people around you, it will never be a problem. Sadly this is the exception to the rule these days.
I don't think it's merely a matter of being okay with yourself and those around you. The things that come up during certain trips (in yourself or in a trusted friend) should not be underestimated. Some of the stuff that comes up has very deep roots, extending decades back in time. How you feel about yourself in the present or how experienced you are with psychedelics doesn't determine how well you'll be able to cope with these emerging sensations (although these things of course do help). If a certain emotion or gestalt is very powerful, it will override everything else.

an attitude of gratitude would help.

Thanks for the replies so far guys (and don't be hesitant to keep 'em comming). I think it would be a much wiser choice to have this event on a safer date. Terence McKenna never suggested loud, stressful environments, but silent darkness.

yes, obligation will fuck you up. At least from what I know from shrooms is that your memory of what you want to do gets fucked up (at least that was with me)

Me too ^^ Was very hungry once but all I managed to get to eat was an apple which took about an hour to eat (so finally I was hungry for the 8 hours the trip lasted :( )

hehe, I can remember once holding a bottle of water because I wanted to drink. It took like half an hour until I managed to actually drink once because I was being distracted constantly by the shroom trip.

What is also very annoying on shroom or lsd trips is stuff in your pockets. You grab in your pocket to get your lighter but you just can't feel anything. In the end you pull out your hand and lose your lighter but you don't notice. That better not be your keys... ;)
