I think most people here know these people on the streets who try to find people who are willing to donate for, say, greenpeace and other organisations like that.
Today I met some of those again.

I didn't sign today, first of all because I didn't know very much about the specific organisation, but mostly because some kind of reflex in me started, not to give any money away, talking hypocritic bullshit.

then, when I finally got away, I started thinking, why I was behaving like this and if it really is that much of a problem to give away some money for a good thing.
anyway, donating 60€ per year (5€ per month) doesn't make that much of a difference to me.

so, what organisation would be best to donate to?
are you donating?
for which organisation?
did you start donating because you were asked for it on the street?

greetings

*moved to the lounge... (or should it be somewhere else?)

I'll be on topic later.

"so, what organisation would be best to donate to?"

Me please .

"are you donating? "

I`m prepared to donate as much sperm as any woman wants .

I dont donate because i havent got any spare money . If i had some i`d want to do something good with some of it but i dont trust any organisation i have heard of up till now . For me most of what i have seen is pissing against the wind . And rich people going on holiday .

should be ok that way, thank you.

this is why I'm asking. the people today told me that if I donated for greenpeace, I'm just financing a porsche for the guy who runs this organisation. I asked them why it should be any different with their organisation. they told me something about a quality-test label from independet organisations, which greenpeace did not receive, but still. probably I would have heard the same thing from greenpeace activists, just with switched roles.

There has been a program about these collectors on Dutch television.
These people (usually students) are contracted by a agency.
The first year your donations goes to this agency, not to the organisation you donated to.
The second year the agency get's 70 %
The year after that 60%
The rest goes to the organisation.

I find these people very annoying.
In Rotterdam all the beggars get arrested, while these people can beg all they want.
I always tell them to get a honest job, or do something useful with there lives.
Get them pissed and angry so they stop there annoying job.

I don't have nothing against donation, but with these big organisations like greenpeace and (especialy WWF)
It is likely that your money goes to the people behind the desks.
With these big organisations there are many people making a living out of it.

as the Dutch say.
Er blijft geld aan de strijkstok hangen. (the money sticks to the striking stick)

i hate that ....

people ripping other people off by telling them lies.....

the crown of modern world capitalism.....

if i had a lot of money i would donate, but maybe i would donate it directly: call the people or write them mails and ask if they would have more need of my money than i did.... if they wanted it i could send it to them directly thanks to the financial global network.

peace.

If I had the money I would do it myself. With the help of other people of course.
I would want to see and participate in the project in which I invested my money.

The problem with only giving money is that it often creates a society that doesn't even want to help themselves anymore (people are the same everywhere, the people in 3rd world countries are not better than we are...)

I've heard from a friend who has been living in Africa (and she's definitely not a racist, her fiance is black!) that there is this very common attitude among (especially male) Africans "you are white, you are rich, you have to give me money!". Kids will walk up to you and be offended if you don't give them your 1000 bucks camera because they are used to getting everything for free from the foreigners. They can't imagine that not all white Europeans are very rich, and that you have been saving money for a year or two to buy that camera.
This attitude has been created by the organizations who have been living off of donations, and who have just given the money away with no strings attached.

Yes.

And also, how do you want to build up an economy with giving them money? African textile industry is destroyed because donated cloth are cheaper and better. No one buys local stuff. We have to give fishernet and not fishes. Of course this builds up a short-term solution and there is absolutely no concern in donating in an organisation that organises and builds schools there (as long as they are REALLY building them)

I think thats true to a small extent for the people . Its more true for the governments that are used to being bribed . The government get the aid not the people and then they sell it and the money disapears in their pockets .

I have experienced the problem in moroco and thailand . People know how dificult iut is for them to get out of their countrys and how expensive it is for them to travel and think that you can so you must be ultra rich . Its also made MUCH worse by all those slimy american films and TV programs like dallas , miami vice and others where all americans are rich .
