I think it was restin who suggested reading Godel, Escher, Bach

it was Meduzz... i'm currently reading it too (though i've paused for months now)

i also highly recommend 'I am a strange loop' by Hofstadter, it is considerably shorter and easier to read than 'Godel Escher Bach' and it is saying exactly the same thing, he wrote it essentially in order to clarify misperceptions about GEB, it is very deep stuff
