I am very interested in getting into the botany and chemistry sides of drugs, that is growing, cultivating, picking and harvesting pretty much anything psychoactive, and synthesising and understanding psychoactive chemicals, lsd, mdma, pcp etc. As you might well be aware, the world is a very big sea for a pothead goldfish like me to leap into, so I was wondering if anyone had any information that might help. People I should research, books I should read, documentaries I should watch, anything that will help me become more professionally acquanted with chemistry and botany. I have searched online a bit, but was hoping that someone with a little more experience could perhaps point me in a more directed direction. Please share your knowledge!

I advise you to write in a slightly larger font because it hurts my eyes to read your post

other than that i have very little knowledge on chemistry or botany

however there are some very in depth how-to's and explanations in the synthetics extraction and research section of the forum
that area may help you quite a bit i'd venture

welcome to the forum :D

Haha okay yeah I'll use a bigger font. Just a habbit I picked up from my days on gaia as a kid. And yes haha I found the synthetics section after I made the post, so, fucking, wonderful. Honestly, I can't believe there aren't more people out there who do this, there should be so much more films and books etc with master chefs as leads or important side characters, at least. Yeah thank's mate xD

Yeah alright. Hey what's the go on this forum with regards to pming people? Are most people happy to share their links and info or would most find it annoying to have a little kid buzzing in their inbox trying to suck the sugary knowledge out of their minds?

(I aint a typical kid, more like a kid in the sense that the ubermensch is one, can you dig?)

i think you'll find most people will be somewhat accommodating
it just depends what in particular ur asking for
certainly worth asking people

I suggest do your own research first and if you are still stuck then pm people. People can get annoyed when someone asks a simple question that they could have easily found the answer to themselves. Show that you've tried to find the answer and you'll probably get a better reception when you ask.

http://www.erowid.org is a fantastic research tool.

the more productive or the longer you are around here, the more willing people will be to share with you. share and be shared with tends to be the flow around here. also, check out (in the older posts) the people with high post counts. some may not be active posters anymore, so it's a bit like shopping at a thrift store, but once you find a member with the right kind of posts, they're like treasure troves.

It depends what you want to learn.

Botany - Go to barnes and noble man - weed books are a dime a dozen. Everyone and their grandma knows how to grow it.

Biochemistry - What I eventually want to get into; HOW do I get this plant to make more of this substance, while still being... natural (not overloading a plant or feeling like I'm manipulating something). This is what I want to get into, the mix of chemistry, biochemistry, and botany. I want to be with the plants that I 'use' to reach consciousness, I want to be in the life of this plant, rather than ordering it from a far off farmer that I will never meet. I hate that capitalist bullshit.

To learn about this you should probably read an introductory biology book - one on genes, dna, microbiology, so on, and find what exactly you want to research from there.

As for chemistry - You need to know what you want to see. A good book on synthesis of drugs is Tihkal, Pihkal - you can download them everywhere. They are great references for how drugs can be made (if you have the sources) and also some tid bits of the actual active biochemistry behind how they work.

If you're into the neurochemistry, in addition to pihkal and tihkal you can look up DMT: The spirit molecule (focuses on DMT), or seriously just google (Drug name here) Biochemistry/Neurochemistry/Action what have you. This will give you a decent understanding.

Unfortunately, neurochemistry is in its infancy still - nobody really understands drugs. We know what they do in the brain and to our consciousness, but nobody can really connect the two.

theres more out there everyday

Let's not forget that classic tome Total Synthesis II by Strike.

I would advise you to read that. It'll have you buying glass in no time!
