I am keeping my peyote and peruvians/ pedro's under artificial light and a temp. of 21 celsius . Should i give a normal amount of water like in the summer ??
rgrds s

Nope, stop giving them water right away and put them in a cooler room begin winter. Best winter temp is between 4 and 10 degrees and the room has to be light.

i dont have a cool room, that's the problem.. so i have like a summer situation fot my cacti. do you think that's possible? Or do cacti have something like a bio- rythm and will not grow in the winter even if you give them enough light and high temperature?

Think its possible but there is just less light in the winter so it can get a thin spot. If you can't put in in a cooler room at least don't water it, this will help.

ok i am not gonna give any water any more.. but i am keeping it under alot of light !!

Winter sucks, my advice is to move somewhere warmer.

Smaller cacti that are unable to store lots of water, may need at least 1 watering through the winter, especially if you're giving them a lot of light and forcing them to grow. Large mature cacti can actually go years without water.
If you have small babies, just give them a squeeze every once in a while (don't prick yourself) if they feel soft and are getting wrinkles, they need H20 holmes.

I keep mine in the dark so they dont thin out.

It's a good thing they look like shit! My peyote always like like crap in winter.

The peyote goes into survival mode and produces mescaline.

Summer (warmth and H20) is for growth and in winter they produce mescaline.

A week ago I gave my peyote quite some water, now he'll have to do without it for a few months.

Haven't given my cacti water for the last few weeks because it was getting cold. However I don't have a cool room either. I can make it 15°C during the day if necessary, but when I'm at home I need to raise it to 21°C at least.

What do you think, should I rather put them outside where it's like 5°C now (damn cold...) ?? At night it might be below zero already so I have to put them inside at night anyways.

What about giving the cacti some water in winter so they will grow thin? Will it produce more mescalin? I'm gonna harvest them anyways in spring, so the thin part won't be a problem.

I am new to cacti growing. OK, I have about 20 but never tried to grow them from seed. But would like to. That is why I ordered San Pedro grow kit. Would it be wrong to plant the seeds in winter?

Tryptonaut, the best thing for them is a nice sunny window. If you've got a nice, warm room, great! I think I remember the picture you posted of your two trichocereus, and with their size, you may need to give them a little water, I also think they were in fairly small pots which is sort of good. You definitely don't want to over-water them. Letting the roots rot= dead cacti.
Just wait until the tops start to feel squishy or if they obviously look wrinkled.

You don't want them to thin out though, because when you harvest them, you can save the top 12cm and plant those to grow two more caci. Leave a few cm at the bottom, and the stumps will sprout 1 to 5 more cacti. But you must put them in larger pots come spring.

Winter sucks ass. :(

Sopor, you could try it now, but you'll have better luck if you wait until spring.

Give some wather even every week nomatters if it is winter time. From couple of drops to the spoon for big ones.In nature thay doesnt go into suspended animation mode(but in Europe people in greenhouses do that) but thay are little slower in growing speed. This tiny bits of water from my XP tells them to start making violet/red bags filled with seeds.10 seeds max per bag.And how many flowering thats many seed bags.Pedro&Pachanoi doesnt need water couse thay go trougt cold winter time.
