Hey yo! :D

I got a growbox cubensis that I ordered from azarius a while ago. Yesterday the first mushis started to show up! :)

I have read some questions here at the forum, and now I was wondering:
Does the growbox works better if I give it some water every day? It doesn't say anything about it at the guide from azarius.

They will be succeded at sunday, the day that I will use mushrooms at for the first time! :D Can't wait anymore.. :P
How much is a regular dose for eating, I want to get a nice trip.. not a simple one!

Thanks for advice. And remember: This is batcountry! \\ Riddle

I have no idea about the watering thing, but a nice dose to begin with would be about 15 to 20 grams.
I think that you don't need to rewater the kit as long as the humidity stays high

Its better not to water the box during fruiting only if the humidity is very low. This you can see by shrooms that seem to have burst(actually already drying). Just give it some air everyday when the box is fruiting.

The water part is better to do between flushes (fruiting) this way the box can absorb more water so a new flush can form, just as in nature after a some good rain.

DONT spray it on the soil or the shrooms

water brings contams.. usually the colonised substrate can handle it, but its best not to do it.

(this is about PF TEK but i assume its also better for casings)

You can use distilled water, it's not expensive and it won't bring as much contamination (also no excessive amounts of minerals like the tap water in some areas).

Better don't spray the cake and shrooms directly, but it's not deadly if you do it by accident ;)
In my opinion you need to spray a little water every few days or so, but as said before: watch the inside, as long as there's drops of water on the inside it's enough.

What the azarius guide doesn't say: fan fresh air into the container every day (better twice a day). From my experience this is very important for well growing shrooms.

Can contaminants survive the boiling of water? I don't think so, but please correct me if I'm wrong.
Might it work with boiled water with a little peroxide added to it (say .5%). Peroxide usually kills everything and is available at the drugstore (Etos) for about a euro per 100ml. I don't know if this works, though, but I do know that it is used to clean jars for fruiting and can be used in low concentrations when dunking (see shroomery.org for more on this). The mushrooms need some time to adapt to this slightly more hostile environment, but will eventually manage to grow up contamination-free.

Where can i get destilled water? (Assuming boiled water is not destilled.. wich i now come to realise :D Shame on me...)

At least here in Finland distilled water is being sold at gas-stations under the name "battery water". The water used in car batteries (and like) is distilled. It also has many other applications and shouldn't be very hard to find.

Where can i get destilled water?
I usually buy it at Wal-Mart in a 5 liter bottle. They also have it at the local drugstore (I don't know if drugstore is the right word, it's where they sell cosmetics, cleaning equipment and so on. I don't mean the pharmacy)

You should be able to get it almost everywhere because it's commonly used for filling car-batteries, steam irons and aquariums and for watering plants. I also use it to fill my PC watercooling ;)

It might be called "de-mineralized" or "de-ionized" rather than "distilled" (because distilled would be absolutely 100% chemically distilled whereas the cheaper de-mineralized might contain traces of minerals)

Can anyone explain to me the reason why demineralized water or demi water as its called in Holland would have less contains in the form of fungus or bacteria in them ?

In the lab we used to work a lot with this kind of water what was very pure because of analytical analysis and the influence these ions can have on the analysis.

But I really cannot think of a reason why this water would be more sterile than tab water. Perhaps because in the old days this water was prepared by distillation but nowadays its all done by super filtering membranes under high pressure. Can anyone explain this to me ?

Shocked

Maybe I messed this up and "de-mineralized" is actually better than distilled? I don't know, but there must be a difference in quality between the distilled water you can buy at the supermarket and the distilled water which is used for lab experiments. I mean my flowers or steam iron don't care if there's like a few traces of minerals left in the water, but the production of such a product, with less rigorous quality checks, must be definitely a lot cheaper.

I'm only assuming, so if somebody knows better and the distilled water used in chemical labs is exactly the same as that which is sold in supermarkets, please let me know :)

I thought that chemical labs distilled there own water?

I don't know, I said I'm only assuming ;)
However, for a small lab which concentrates on certain tasks I guess it would be a lot more cost effective to buy distilled water, would it?

But I think we can agree that chemical labs probably do not buy their distilled water at Wal-Mart, do they? And that probably the distilled water from Wal-Mart doesn't meet lab-requirements concerning purity (because it doesn't need to for home use)?
