for those that have acces to a copy of Scientific American; read the article that belongs to it as well. It deals with the visual system, the retina is waaay more than just the biological equivalent of a camera.. in fact is has a neural net as well that acts as a 'feature filter' (Kind of like edge filters etc in photoshop). Those streams are sent to the brain, and not the raw pixel data. The researchers have found 12 types so far.

psychedelic if you ask me :)

The article let me also wonder about the possibility to find/make a molecule that interacts only with the retina nerve cells, and not the brain nerve cells.

so if I understand it right... this is how animals see the world ?

what is the retina ?
i`m not sure that I know what this is about ? :) please explain

the retina is the light sensitive system in your eyes.

and yeah, the movies shows how vision is composed of different parts in animals, including humans.

the movie is only a low resolution simulation of the concepts put forward in the article, but is has been verified with rabbit retinas.

the main point is that the eyes themselves filter certain types of data before sending this (and only this) data to the brain.

It is like making a photocopy of a newspaper, by reading the newspaper and sending only the letters and placing them in a similar blank layout piece of paper.

the djvu file format uses this method as well. it's a good concept and has been re-invented many times over.

I'll get a copy of the article (have to scan the hardcopy) and post it online somewhere as soon as possible.

..feeling Kinda funKy..

funKy ?? yes

hmm but this is really interesting indeed ..
cause each time when I dream, or well see this that are unexplainable with words .. i'd wish he could see what I see

if they could somehow intercept(or just save it to some flash memory or something)the things that I see... I could watch those things again on my computer ??

ofcorse this is pretty futuristic thinking .. but I don't think it would be impossible to invent a machine which translates the imput to a visualisation
