So I have been working on laying out my plans for a book. Collecting information here and there, putting together thoughts. I have even started an offline discussion group with like minded individuals to secretly build my own thought process and inspire me further. I have written about 60,000 words total. Here is sample. Please, constructive input is very much requested. Be critical. (on the thoughts, not the grammar, editing hasn't even begun yet.)
Scientist believe that the Earth has been around for nearly four and a half billion years. There has been reported evidence of life on earth for nearly this long as well. The first life forms on earth were believed to exist just under four billion years ago.
Before sentience become predominant across the globe the earth still existed, and functioned. This is because the earth is an entity of its own, and everything that calls it home is here to perform a function within the entity as a whole. Just as in the cellular structure of a biological creature, the parts of earth function interdependently of one another but at the same time they retain individual processing. The purpose of an action may not be entirely clear, or even known, by the part of earth performing it. This does not make the action any less important to its overall health.
The earth has ways to heal itself from wounds, to grow and flourish, and to correct mistakes it makes along the way. Environments that have suffered great devastation can reconstruct themselves given time, just as the skin of a wounded animal will close and heal. Scarring may be permanent, but given time, the scarred area can heal to become just as healthy as the rest of the planet.
So where does sentience come into play?
We are not born of the earth. How did the bacteria we come from arrive here? Nobody knows, but there are many ideas.
However you wish to believe it all started, unless you are a fundamentalist Christian, the evidence proves that we evolved from micro biotic bacteria. Earths climate, temperature, weather patterns, and atmosphere are all parts of what allowed life to be sustainable, and flourish.
If you look at things this way, all life that exists is engaged in a mutalist symbiotic relationship to the entity Earth. Over the course of earth’s lifespan, life has developed an obligate relationship with the planet, where we depend on it to stay alive and provide for us so we may survive.
This type of relationship has allowed life to spread very quickly across the planet, and adapt itself to fit the function of the environment it is living in. If kept in check, this type of relationship is helpful to the earth itself and the life on it. So what had caused us to develop ourselves into an age where we are destroying the earth we are part of?
Intelligence.
The ability of life to develop a pattern of thought, to communicate on an intellectual level, has allowed us (being man) to harness the raw resources of the earth with great efficiency. We have learned to manipulate the land to produce products at great speed. The problem with this is that the earth has not had time to tend to its wounds, no matter how big or small they may be.
Since the harnessing of intelligence in man, we have rapidly developed our technology and science.
Along with this development we have been able to expand further, communicate globally, and make decision for the earth that will heavily impact its intended life. Much the same way cancerous cells react in a biological creature, we have experienced a state of uncontrolled growth that has become detrimental to the overall health of earth.
The state of earth in our present day is steadily getting worse, with no end to this decline in sight. Because of the rampant growth of life on the planet, the planet is struggling to be able to sustain its healthy life patterns, and the effects of this are being seen all over the world.
