Thanks to Restin for the translation from German. English subtitles have now been uploaded.

This short video features Christian Rätsch, author of The Encyclopedia of Psychoactive Plants, at the World Psychedelic Forum 2008 in Basel, Switzerland, talking about the proper way to take magic mushrooms and other psychoactive plants.

Watch it at the Psychonaut Channel: Christian Rätsch at the World Psychedelic Forum 2008

that's great thanx

and more from Ratsch coming very soon........

Thank you . Thats what i keep talking about...... useing things for personal developement and understanding and what i mean when i say i dont see people here doing it .

Every one here should watch that at least three times and think about it . Its not just about magic mushrooms , he was talking about them and other things .

I wanted to see the subtitles that Restin had done but there werent any unfortunately , maybe because of where i live . If anyone can tell me how / where to see them i`d be gratefull .

The message was stop the hokus pokus and learn to do it properly .

Yes, a very short but important message.

You can select the subtitles in the lower right corner of the video screen.

nice post, thanx

Just one thing i disagree with him though, about musicians failing miserably on mushrooms :? and recommending cd's instead... I'm becoming increasingly more annoyed with listening to someones else's music the last couple of mushroom trips i've been and playing some simple instrument simply gives me so much more than passive listening to something that i feel isn't relevant in the trip, something somebody else made in a different set/setting. It sometimes removes me from myself and my own visions.

I always make a selection of music beforehand but it get increasingly difficult to find the right music that i've haven't heard too many times before, doesnt intrude on the trip so much and aids me in the process.

I would like to have a place where i can trip at night and play my framedrum, or my mbira (thumb piano) and sing without worrying my neighbours will wake up or something.

Just a quick rant

I have the same thing with music which I've heard too many times, or that seems to be too far removed from my state of mind in the experience. I agree with Christian though that you lose dexterity when you're tripping and thus temporarily become a less capable musician.

I agree and disagree . I`ve never heard anyone play an instrument on mushrooms well . It was always realy crap . But i dont like listening to music on trips either as its always someone elses selection and it often doesnt fit . Its a bit for me like someone imposeing their ego and taste on others .

Strangely enough i took my 12 string to an Ayahuasca session once but couldnt play it . Another guy picked it up and it was like angels singing , like honey driping of a spoon . Like the gods makeing love . It moved everyone in the session .

Well, yes i usually don't play anything in the beginning when everything starts to rumble in and around me, but when i'm "there', i find that my playing can be very subtle and flowing. However, when i consciously try to play something, if i think about it, it won't happen and everything becomes very hard to do, so i toss my instrument in the corner. But when playing from the heart it all just comes naturally somehow.
Maybe it could have something to do with a certain approach to music, i've never really learned to read music for instance.
I think a lot of musicians cannot let go of some ideas about music, aesthetics and their training that they freeze up because they have an idea in mind of what 'good' music is, while in a trip for me it isn't about making 'good music' and enjoying it (although that quality isn't absent) It's about making your instrument/voice into an vehicle or path, if you like.

By the way, people told me they very much liked 'my' playing in sessions, so i'm not being deliriant or something :D
In the beginning i was a little afraid that people would be annoyed by it but i also knew that if that was the case they would tell me so.
But maybe i'm just lucky and its something that runs through my veins. I've been told my grandfather couldn't read a note too , but could play the piano very well and also sang a lot.. I wish I could have known the man before he died

Nice, i am looking forward to my first ayahuasca session

I agree with the ego thing, I can only play in trips when i don't have the feeling i am reinforcing some personality through the music. In other words, when there is no 'I' in the playing and music, there is just the music and almost no player. sounds kind of out there when i see it in writing like this

What was the guy in Asterix and Obelix called ? The one that spent most of his time tied up and gaged hanging from a tree ?

in German it is Troubadix  But they have different names in different languages.

I've played an Mbira during the come down of ayahuasca, it was so soothing and fun to play around with.
When I stopped for a moment, there were some protesters, they wanted me to continue so ofcourse I did ^^

But I can imagine not being able to play guitar under influence.
THE reason I quit smoking cannabis every day,
being high fucks up my dexterity too much.

Haven't tried it on shrooms though, last time shrooms I didn't play guitar yet :P

Will go watch te vid now...

His name is Christian , and funily enough hes not a fan of christians .

Ah yes, thanks, I changed it here and at YouTube. Fortunately we spelled his name correctly in the video itself (Ratsch, with an s).

Sounds like my way

I was with Oknayd and we where on mushrooms, he played very nice.
it wasn't crap at all. It was very uplifting and swinging.
:D

Music recorded or live is perfect to get energies going for me.
And it can be used as a tool for trance states.
