Caduceus Mercurius a dit:
I have the same thing with music which I've heard too many times, or that seems to be too far removed from my state of mind in the experience. I agree with Christian though that you lose dexterity when you're tripping and thus temporarily become a less capable musician.
Well, yes i usually don't play anything in the beginning when everything starts to rumble in and around me, but when i'm "there', i find that my playing can be very subtle and flowing. However, when i consciously try to play something, if i think about it, it won't happen and everything becomes very hard to do, so i toss my instrument in the corner. But when playing from the heart it all just comes naturally somehow.
Maybe it could have something to do with a certain approach to music, i've never really learned to read music for instance.
I think a lot of musicians cannot let go of some ideas about music, aesthetics and their training that they freeze up because they have an idea in mind of what 'good' music is, while in a trip for me it isn't about making 'good music' and enjoying it (although that quality isn't absent) It's about making your instrument/voice into an vehicle or path, if you like.
By the way, people told me they very much liked 'my' playing in sessions, so i'm not being deliriant or something
In the beginning i was a little afraid that people would be annoyed by it but i also knew that if that was the case they would tell me so.
But maybe i'm just lucky and its something that runs through my veins. I've been told my grandfather couldn't read a note too , but could play the piano very well and also sang a lot.. I wish I could have known the man before he died
