I agree with you.....it makes me sick, too.....I consider myself a real American, someone who actually *knows* what freedom is, and also realizes we aren't getting any.
I blame a lot of it on TV, and the rest of it on our culture, which is propagatrd by TV...the consumerism, the dumb-ass ideas of what makes a 'hero'....(I tell you what, it's NOT charging off to battle so that our country can cling to a way of life that is killing the environment, and earning us the eternal enmity of the whole world)
It's rooted in what has come to be known as conservatism, but these ideas aren't really conservative to the principles of the constitution, they are conservative in the sense of 'resisting change'....
...and the underlying attitude behind that is 'I got mine, motherfucker'.
Which is typical among Republican conservatives in America today.
Add to this the typical ignorance of many Americans about defining what a 'drug' is....they don't think of cigarettes as drugs, they don't think of alcohol as a drug.....they don't think of ibuprofen as a drug......( it's medicine )
People LIKE being stupid, they LIKE being told what to think, and how to think it...and as long as they do, there will be some group of paternalistic, ideological assholes directing their thoughts.....maybe it is part of our evolution, that we be manipulated into thinking the way the alpha males want us to think, so that we can be led...
....and you can stand up to the government, you can stand up to the DEA, but it requires a GROUP of people, who are united in their thoughts and purpose, to do it......the blueprint for all of this was laid out in the 60's, when a group of hippies forced the American government to adjust many of its ideas and processes.
They didn't have as much technological distraction as we have today, which allowed them to focus their energies on external matters.....some would say,
(and I am one of them) that they just CARED MORE back then, and had MORE GUTS back then, and were willing to take on the dragon.
It isn't that we have grown any less contentious as a people, we haven't....the violent crime rate is high, young men in the military are eager to go shoot at foreigners, and Americans like violence in their sports, movies and lives...
But somewhere in the mix, we have been dumbed down, and manipulated into directing our anger in the wrong direction. The government should FEAR the anger of the American people, instead of laughing at us as a bunch of
jingo-istic idiots who can be, like toys, wound up and let go.
They have pulled the wool over our eyes, and they do not respect us.
Why do they deserve our respect?
