"British geniuses feature heavily in a recent list that notes the greatest living thinkers of our time - proportionately more than any other country.

The top 100 living geniuses was compiled by a panel of six experts in creativity and innovation from Creators Synectics, a global consultants firm.

The company emailed 4,000 Britons this summer and asked them to nominate up to 10 living people who they considered geniuses.

Each genius was then awarded scores out of ten against criteria which included: paradigm shifting; popular acclaim; intellectual power; achievement and cultural importance.

1 = Albert Hoffman (Swiss) Chemist 27

Seriously, why is Mandela a genius? A freedom fighter, yes, someone who stood up for his beliefs, yes, but a genius?

I don't think Matt Groening is anymore a genious then Mandela...

top 100 living genius and no richard d james ?!
Just kidding...that list is quite fun but doesn't mean anything

I don't think they were talking about musical geniuses :mrgreen:

i'm begginin to doubt the seriousness of the study: Brian Eno at 15 and Dalai Lama at 26 ? Mohamed Ali before Bill Gates ? Mandela before Steven Hawking ? even Dolly Parton enters the list! now, i ask, how come is she a genious ?
i know that this was a poll, and that wat makes it more interesting...i don't think that this will ever be taken seriously, but, again, it is interesting! i'm impressed that the director from "deep throat" didn't showed up!

i think the dalai lama is quite a genius ^^ in a spiritual way.

that was my point...we cannot compare the Dalai Lama to Brian Eno, even though the latter is a wonderful musician in ambient music. i really don't think ambient music and Buddism can be compared this way. :shock:

ahh ok :P i thought you ment it the other way :oops: like the dalai lama is not a genius :roll:

He is, really that man is enlightnened :)

The question is, is there a definition of genius that holds for everyone on this list? I don't think so. Plus we can mention another 100 geniuses that are not on this list that wouldn't be less than those mentioned. You cannot measure genius. And it definitely is not a popularity contest.

forkbender...did you read my post ? i was saying exactly the same thing than you! who said it was a popularity contest ?

^Oh, but I agree with what you say.

Just elaborating...
