Dont think I dont know the kind of evil that can happen from 'religious Christians', I have had my fair share.
I lost a close friend because of the evils of my Church's decisions.
He was the leader of a ministry that I was heavily involved in and a very close friend.
He pulled his back sadly enough at work in the ministry and as such had to take sick leave for a month.
Three days before Christmas, Christmas! You know the reason the fucking religion exists?, they told him he had one week to come back to work or he was fired. (Emotional intent for emphasis, I have gotten past this mostly.)
He went back to work, in pain, but pushed through it because he needed the money.
Sooo...a month later his rent comes due and they had been helping him and his daughter with rent because the money from the church wasnt enough to pay for everything. He is very frugal and very paranoid about spending too much. Cuts corners buys cheap dog food for the dog, etc. 2 days before the rent is due they havnt gotten the check from the church to pay for the rent so he calls them up and asks whats going on. They reply "Oh. Sorry we forgot to tell you. We arent paying your rent anymore. Good luck. Hope it works out well." Almost word for word. Not even a 'we'll pray for you' or a 'we'll try and help you find some other way' just cold turkey.
So two days later they miss rent.
A variety of things happened between me and him and some words were said that shouldnt have been said but they all centered around the fact that my church at the time (I've since left it after that event) tried to kick him out on the street during Christmas AND stopped helping him with rent two days before it was due and as a result I have not talked to him since because after he moved he changed cell phones and I dont have his contact information cuz he never contacted me.
And to add insult to injury to the explanation. That church that wouldnt pay 600bucks a month of rent anymore has a anual budget of over a million dollars a year. Thats right 1,000,000 goes through those doors every year from donations. No sales, no sign ups, everything is done through donations. One year they were having a sermon out on the lawn and it was supposed to rain and the church at the time couldnt afford a tent so someone walked up and said "I'll pay for it." And wrote a 20,000 check right there on the spot.
I was bitter about this with my friend (not with the friend with the church for what happened and loosing my friend) for I would say a good year and I still get in fights with my parents on occasions when they start going off on how wonderful and great that church is. Its a 'good church' but its not as holy as people would have you believe from going there unless you really get into behind the scenes.
So I've had my fair share of burns too but I also know that humans fuck up and its not God telling them to do it its more the case of God allowing them to be idiots so people can grow from it. If this didnt happen to me I wouldnt be able to write this message and say I know what pain is like and I know what happens when churches screw you, but now I can say I have been there. Yeah I miss my friend, but I also know I will see him in heaven so I am not worried about never seeing him again.
Just a comment. Maybe not the biggest pain to experience from a church but I also have friends that have been abused for being homosexual, or transgender, or bi-sexual. Thats also not God yet most people who dont have a relationship with God cant see the difference and I understand that.
