i thought that maybe it would be an interesting topic to discuss..
to me it seems it's just a mind game. because our "culture" is so obsessed with thinking,
we seem to invest a lot of energy into who/what we think we are, but also into who/what
we think others are... and others in turn think about who/what they are and who/what we are...
but then again, thinking is not knowing... i would say knowing can be the same like thinking,
but doesn't have to be...

some people are so ignorant towards themselves that they can't or even don't want to see
what they are doing and/or who they are... that's why they get angry when you try to show it to them...
some of such people can almost become like monsters lol.. no joke... lol poor devils..
they can't take the truth. :\ 8) :-P

well maybe you can see how this game is played on many levels. some people seem to be
obsessed with their definition of their ego or shit like that... how much shit they do
only to inflate their ego like a balloon...
the point i am trying to make is that the potential for fooling ourselves is very high,
if we get lost in the game or so... but well this again could be seen as a potential for
finding out who you are, by first losing yourself. maybe it's like that in order to fall
you first need to rise... something like that lol... or another analogy could be we first need to
die in order to be reborn... :yawinkle:

well and then also there seems to be the notion of "false" and "right" ego or so...
maybe it can be seen as an indicator of how much and how well we reflect ourselves...
possibly in the modern world and so called civilization we even need a certain level
of self-image and/or perception of it ... i can't describe it very well lol... if you ask me,
one of the most painful and stupid things you can do is to base your sense of self on false ego..
whatever that may be lol... the question is how do we find out what is false ego
in the first place?? well i can't really put it into words.. i will just say: you will
feel it in a certain way in your own experience.
i can tell from my own experience that false ego could express in forms of something like
conditioning from society or parents or so... and sometimes you only notice it
after a while of observing yourself. lol according to that i think some people forget to observe
themselves at all... but anyway lol... you reap what you sow... :)

because the question is, if we don't know who we are ourselves, who else is supposed to know it??
the notion of it being a mind game should emphasise the possibility/ability or the possibility for the ability
to just shut the thoughts off. like waking up from a bad dream... :smoke: :wasted:

do you buy into such ego/mind games and why?? or maybe you even start them by yourself?? :unibrow:

The first thing i do when i don't know what to think or how to feel about something i've done or something someone else has done, is ask my self "Is that right or wrong?"

If I can objectively point to something i've done and say it's wrong ie. murder, then i let my ego burn. I wont take any satisfaction from the world for however long i feel/think is sufficient .

On the other hand, if i objectively determine i have done something good ie. give to charity, then i will absorb the world and feel/think highly of myself until i do something bad or go to sleep.

Lastly is when i can't determine if something was right or wrong, then i will sit in limbo until i come to a conclusion, give up, move on, or just feel better. 8)

hmm well i guess that sounds rather reasonable..
i think it's good (to be able) to control the ego, or else the chances are high that it will control you.
another thing that comes to my mind when thinking of ego is roleplay... and roleplay doesn't
always have to be on a conscious level... it can be very unconscious, too...
an interesting thing to note here is that you can also try to play many roles at once.
then it can get confusing and also conflicts can arise... or how much you only "play" the role or so...
well anyway .. i would say it can be good or bad depending on how you use it..
but i would also say that who/what you think you are (what kind of ego you make for yourself)
is in fact an influence to who you are. :o

the question then would be why you think this or that about yourself in the first place. well it's just another
way of saying that what you think does matter... lol
i wonder why some people can't seem to acknowledge that. maybe because they are too
one-sided in their perspective or (mental) paradigms. it could also well be that thoughts
can simultaneously matter and not matter...in what way it matters or not is surely another story...
if that makes any sense... :)

braineater are you my roomate?

my roommate almost verbatim told me your first post last night.

I haven't taken a strong trip in so long I've almost forgotten I had an ego! Bad territory.

lol what a strange "coincidence" ...

as far as i know i am not your roommate... but i could be wrong lol... hahahahha :D

btw interesting idea... to forget that you have an ego... maybe i should try that, too... 8)
