I wanted to leave this as a reply to the suicide thread, but it seems off topic and probably deserves it's own heading.
I wonder if there is any way to know if there was ever any serial killers and such before the dawn of agriculture/cities. My belief is that we will always be a ruined bunch of animals, never reaching "civilization" as we have prematurely called ourselves, as long as we continue to exist in cities, especially without any movement. It's hard to be motivated to do good by the earth with a materialist mindset. Much easier to have those beers after work and be couch potato every evening isn't it?
Maybe we are just at a dirty, primitive stage of our development, light is just over the hilltop (2012?). But humans have historically been a tribal, nomadic species, cities seem the antithesis of this. Cities are a poison, a cancer that spreads and consumes. People are not nice to each other in cities, especially the big ones. Sure, you can catch a moment of goodness, but compare it to a village in the Amazon, or to a group of nomads on the steppes.
Society is sick today, I don't say we CANNOT live properly in cities and the way we are now. But people are stupid and hard to organize (especially nearly 7 billion). So, this may be terribly cynical or disturbing, but I think it's about time for a pandemic! We have and continue to work against natural selection, constantly decreasing it's effects on our population and that isn't fair, we don't deserve that kind of advantage one bit.
The collective consciousness of humanity is no good, illegit! I think it's the consciousness that is the root of all of what we do. So what shall we do proactively to fix it? It can start here even, we have members around the globe! Maybe I should go 'head and ask, what are YOU doing? Little, big, it adds up right?
I don't know, that is pretty jumbled up and probably not all that coherent. If you can build on what I've said or have an argument, or just a comment, please. I would really like to discuss these ideas.
