What do you think about them ? Do you use them ? What and why ? What are the dangers if any ? Is it true that if daily used they can make mentaly confused ? Why should anyone use them ? Why shouldnt people use them ? Is it all bullshit , esoteric propoganda and / or sales talk for and from blind people ? Do we need them ?

define supplements please.

Aditives to diaet ?

you mean like vitamin/mineral supplements?

that's also my question. I drink Ginseng each day and sometimes Vitamine C, are both supplements? Is garlic, when taken for immune system also a supplement?

I saw a documentary about the raw food diet recently as I'm interested in eating foods that haven't been destroyed by heat and want to know more about it. The guy said he hasn't used supplements for 20 years because his food provides him what he needs. It made sense, but I don't have the science to back it up. Will do research and report back.

I don't use them, myself. Feel healthy, so why change a winning team?

Vitamin Pills Are a Waste of Time and Money, Study Shows and are only efficient in the case of a hectic life and poor eating habits .

Vitamin pills are not the answer to all our health problems and concerns, new study shows

Today’s society has taught us that we must live our lives against the clock, a prerequisite we’re more than happy to oblige, even if it means a less healthier us. At the same time, we have learned to supplement for everything with vitamin pills, hoping that they are, in some twisted way, our ticket to a lengthier, disease-free life. Not quite so, a new study says: vitamins do not prevent cancer or heart disease, and are practically useless if not ccompanied by other methods of keeping healthy.

Given the boost in sales that vitamin pills have recently received, many have started to attribute miracle properties to them, such as the ability to prevent cancer and heart disease, as well as to guarantee more years of life, the new study reveals. Contrarily, it is being said, the only protective effect that vitamin supplements may have kicks in only when the person is question is also taking other steps to ensure a healthier life, such as a balanced diet, working out, and not smoking or drinking. On their own, these pills are just a waste of time, the study shows.

The findings of this latest study come to confirm those of a previous one, in which researchers from New York combined data from two Women’s Health Initiative trials on 161,808 post-menopausal females aged 50 to 79 years. The risk of developing breast, colorectal, endometrial, kidney, bladder, stomach, ovary, or lung cancers was in no way lowered by long-term vitamin use, it has been shown. Moreover, there was no link between taking vitamin pills and heart disease and death, in that it neither lowered nor increased the risk for both.

The conclusion is that simply taking pills will not work wonders in our body, with us doing absolutely nothing to change at least some of our daily bad habits. Doctors agree that, while taking supplements is a good idea in case bad eating habits are an issue, abusing them will definitely not have the results we’re hoping for. Moderation and finding balance are the two key elements for a healthier life, they also admit.

Vitamins and minerals are not intended to be used like drugs. Both cancer and heart disease are conditions with multiple causes such as genetics, smoking, obesity and diet, so it is unlikely that simply taking a multi-vitamin supplement would prevent them. But a multi-vitamin, for instance, could be the answer for someone leading a hectic, busy lifestyle, where meals are skipped or taken on the run. Dr. Ruxton explains for the Daily Mail.

But don't think that for example taking ester C on the days you have not eaten much citrus is bad for you.

Some of them can be good, like if you intake alot of DHA-EPA for treating defisciency, you have to take vitamin E to balance the loss of it through fat absorbtion.

Things like that, they can be useful even if you eat good, but they're not going to save anyone's life or compensate for eating bad.

I never invested lots of time in eating healthy, but lately i am getting interested into it. But i get so confused by all the information about eating healthy that i don't really know what to believe and what not. So now i do have a question, and i know it won't be an easy answer, but how does one eat healthy? What are the foods we defiantly need to eat? What are the basics of eating healthy?

Full live grains + probiotics = essential

unroasted fresh nuts = essential

vegetables, uncooked = essential

Very simple isn't it ?

Full live grains and probiotics will make all essential vitamins in your intestines that you cannot find in food, the grain must be soaked to activate the enzymes and the minerals, you must eat ALOT of those morning and night, so you shit every 24 hours and it's regular. Add nuts to those, hemp nuts are particularly good.

Then you should intake alot of deep green veggies, and all the other colors too, if you don't like chewing 3-4 bowls of salad per day, get a juicer and drink them.

If you got these, whatever else you eat will not make much difference.

Just mainly eat freash fruit and vegetables . Frozen vegetables from a supermarket are good , better than "fresh" vegetables from a market that are a few days old . They should be warmed up and not cooked . As soon as it starts bubleing take it off the heat and let it stand untill its warm enough to eat . Use a little vegetable oil in your food and change the sort every time the bottle is empty . Full corn bread and full corn pasta are OK but not both every day . Try not to eat processed foods and keep your sugar and salt intake to a minimum . Basicaly your body tells you what it needs . For example if salt tastes sweet you need some and if it tastes very salty you dont . Also fruit juices and herb teas are better than tea and coffe . If you get out and do some exercise you will probably be OK . If your diaet isnt OK you will notice it .

A bag of mixed nuts once a week is also good .

Variety is the spice of life .

The only thing that you have to realy take care of is vitamin D . That means get natural light on your skin , but not so much that you get brown , as much as possible .

The recomendations here are 5 times a day fruit / vegetables . A few slices of bread or some pasta . No meat and ocasionaly some fish .

Eating wrongly can make a person not sllep so good , or get fat , or get a bit mentaly confused , or agressive , or very passive , or depressive .

Drink at least 2 liters a day, better 3 at least one of wich should be pure water .

Look at your eyes , your shit and its consistancy and smell , plus what bits of your food that you didnt digest properly , and smell and taste your piss every day .

If you look at wiki it should tell you the dangers of to many vitamins and supplements .

how does one eat healthy?

eat foods that make your body feel relaxed and energetic:

fruits, nuts & seeds, vegetables, full grains. Basically what has been mentioned above.

I think it is okay to eat fish once in a while.

Do animals use supplements ? Are they unhealthy ?

Do the vast majority of humanity use supplements ? Are they unhealthy ?

Who uses the most supplements ? Decadent , lazy westeners ? Whos affected by civilisations sicknesses ?

Who sells , advertises and pushes supplements ?

An asparin is good if you have a headache . So are anti biotics , anti viral medicines , anti rheumatism medicines , blood thinners , insulin and other medicines if one has the problems that they can help with.......... so i take ten of each every day just in case ............

Just like medicines mixing supplements and takeing them in larger doses than one needs can be very dangerous . If a person wants to try suplements they should try one at a time and only use them a few weeks at a time and then leave a few weeks between the experiments .

hmmm I take ginseng to get fit and vitamin C (I have a hectic life and if I don't et enough sleep=dead)

Where to draw the line? I think one could consider ginger a supplement, seeing it's medicinal use for millenia in loads of different cultures, but I reckon you don't mean that.

There are different types of supplements. There are the ones you see on TV and find in grocery stores, gas stations etc. And then there the ones you don't see on TV, but you read about in magazines concerned with fytotherapy and orthomolecular therapy. Examples of the first are Davitamon, Dagravit, Supradyn, Centrum etc. An examples of the latter is the Solgar VM2000. Davitamon might be bought by decadent, lazy westerners, but Solgar and the like are generally sold in healthfood stores only, where people already try to eat and live as healthy as possible.

Who sells , advertises and pushes supplements ?
On the one hand Unilever, and on the other small companies dedicated to quality and research. Many (but not all) of those small companies have their roots in 'spiritual' practices and ideologies, for example antroposophy, yoga, Born Again christianity, the hippy movement etc.

If a person wants to try suplements they should try one at a time and only use them a few weeks at a time and then leave a few weeks between the experiments .
It all depends on the condition and the substance.

Thanks for the adverts . Have you got comercial interests ?
