I've been really disappointed lately with my results from growing shrooms all DIY. I mean it's a lot of work, it uses up tons of aluminum foil, it needs an hour of cooking in the pressure cooker, and then in the end the flushes aren't that big, because the cakes are relatively small (I don't have a super large pressure cooker, so two 0.25l glasses are the most I can fit in).
Then because of the multiple small glasses I'm using up the whole spore syringe for a few cakes.

When I take everything into account it's just as expensive as getting a Grow Box - but the grow box doesn't need all the extra work, you just put it in a box and let it grow.

What are you guys thinking? Is the DIY growing just for the extra fun? Or should I be making my own spore prints to save the money for the syringes (that are like 15 Euro per piece). But that would mean even more complicated work to do...

I've been considering outdoor growing for the very reasons you named. It's a little bit more work but in the end you have a self-sustaining patch.

DIY kits are not only for fun. if you succeed, you apparently know what to do, and then you will be settled for life. Kind of...

Normal growboxes are way, way easier. A bit more money, but almost foolproof. Since time is money also, these kits are not even that more expensive I guess.

So it's up to you. Nobody can guarantee the growboxes will still be sold in a few years, so I would go for the DIY kits. Spend some time on it, figure it out, and you will never have to rely on ready-to-go kits.
