I like Shpongle a lot and I was wondering if there were others groups that made music that sounds like Shpongle. If you know any plz tell me!!! thanks :)

I wanted to start this topic yesterday! :D

I know there's lots of weird music out there like Autechre and Venetian Snares, but I would like to know which bands make the happy, bubbly, trippy, flowing, multicultural music that is Shpongle.

I wouldn't say it's really like Shpongle, but the following are worth checking out:

Weird and mellow:
Younger Brother - A Flock Of Bleeps
Entheogenic - Dialogue Of The Speakers
Ott - Blumenkraft

Mellow (I play these in my store all day long):
Desert Dwellers - Downtemple Dub (Waves and Flames)

Also very nice, but kind of new age:
Gandalf
Kitaro

Weirder and/or faster:
Koxbox - U-turn
Eat Static
Prometheus
Hallucinogen
Infected Mushroom
Growling Mad Scientists (GMS)
Ozric Tentacles

Check out this website of Twisted Records: http://www.twisted.co.uk/home/
And: http://www.desertdwellers.org/

By the way, my oldest son always gets annoyed when I play rock music in the car, and even more when it's pop music, but when I play any of the above, he doesn't mind at all, and the youngest one clearly enjoys it. It's music that can be appreciated by anyone: you don't need to understand the lyrics or know rock culture to appreciate it. And it makes children (and parents) calm.

Hallucinogen In Dub by Ott is wonderful :o

I have no idea what shpongle is like (I have like 2 albums of him, but it isn't psytrance, though on last.fm shpongle has one fat psytrance tag)
it's more like psychedelic ambient o.O

if you want more the psytrance stuff, try 1200 micrograms. brilliant music, the self titled album on which every song is called after drug rules. every single track is brilliant (except for mescaline, I don't like e-guitars in goa..)

for ambient, well... Boards of Canada are slightly trippy, and Aaron Spectre's "lost tracks" is a good ambient cd too. but if you only find his other stuff, it won't be ambient, you are warned ;)

if you are looking for hard stuff like venetian snares, I can truly help you out =P

I have 1200 mic's, its freaking awesome man. favourite track is Salvia, followed by shrooms and then LSD.

Anyone listen to Dark Nebula? Psyrance; good, no sorry, GREAT stuff!

Another trippy ambient CD is blockhead by cave light, real good for shrooms trips!

I can really recommend Infected Mushroom! Especially the old stuff!!!

I love shpongle!

And there are similiar things - just released - in the music shop at Azarius, but i've heard those albums in between daily business so I cannot tell exacly which albums...(oh and its not meant to be spam, its true IMHO :paranoid: )

Autechre should be on the list as well :D
@ misery, i heard venetian snares on Dour for the first time: :finga:

I would have died for the dour festival.

Blockhead - Music by cavelight is Triphop
Boards of Canada is (chilled) electronica
Aaron Spectre, chill, but also no ambient.

Ambient does not have a beat, except for some tribal ambient (some of Steve Roach's stuff) that does have some minimal tribal rhytm.

Back to the topic, Shpongle is considered Psychill (although in my opinion it's more party hardy then chill...)

I think Younger Brother comes closest to Shpongle (also involves Simon Posford (Hallucinogen/Shpongle)

Not as over produced as Shpongle and Younger Brother, but good to check are:

-Carbon Based Lifeforms (World of Sleepers!!!)
-Bluetech (Prima Materia)
-Solar Fields
-Earthling
-Vibrasphere
-H.U.V.A. Network
-Schulman

OHW and how could I forget ISHQ?!?!
For as far as I know they only have one album: Orchid

Although I think most psy-ambient is cheap plastic ambient, I think it would be nice to check for a lot of people here.
And it always goes together with psychill, 'cause there's always some beat somewhere...

Hallucinogen - In Dub is indeed excellent! I especially like Solstice (Warwick Bassmonkey Mix). If you allow yourself to become that song, you can get very high.

Other Simon Posford related projects:

Celtic Cross
Mystery Of The Yeti

I know this is kind of off topic.. but
aol radio has a ton of really good stations..

The Dance/Electronic section has:
ambient, dj sets, dub, electronica, Hi NRG, house Mix, indietronica, industrial, jungle/D&B, techno, trance..

and there's a TON of other awesome stations.

I hear that man, di.fm all the way, I love the psy-trance channel!!!

I saw Tobin twice this year!
I even spoke to him when he was playing in Rotterdam.

This guy is my hero!

No Shpongle that can ever top that in my world :D
