So I play this MMO called Wurm which is a unique system compared to things like WoW and EQ. Its a medieval setting and pretty behind the times in graphics and so forth but ahead of everything else I have seen in terms of crafting system. It also has the situation where the environment is completely modifiable so like you can dig in the ground and the ground will get lower and you can mine a wall in a mine and the mine wall will go away. Etc. We're building an entire canal through the land via mining a giant long cavern and lower the mine to below the water tabel and raising the ceiling as high as it will go to allow for large ships.
Anyway..
The interesting thing is that the game is unique in the sense that it has its own logic of design. Its literally called wurmian logic. Its things such as:
Crafting tools requires use of various tools such as an anvil, a hammer, an animal pelt, a whetstone.
If you need to sharpen something you use a whetstone.
Being that the system of jewelry is based on the metal working of tools you use a whetstone to sharpen things in the jewelry line.
Being that jewelry is used primarily for magic other things for magic go into this line such as altars.
Being that altars require a bowl and the bowl is made of metal you have a jewelry crafter making metal bowls.
Being all of this combined you end up using a whetstone on a bowl to sharpen it.
Being that there is a device that allows you to find fish in the sea through magic and it has a metal chain made by jewelry (like a bracelet chain) and the device has a ball used for the diviniation, you have the jewelry smith making balls.
Being that the ball is part of the metal working system via the jewelry line you sometimes sharpen it using a whetstone.
Being now that we are sharpening a bowl and sharpening a ball you can see that sometimes this game is....
As sharp as a bowling ball.
Anyway..
