I know I change dramatically from summer to winter, I just don't really understand why.

I become more motivated in spring, summer, fall. More energetic, more ideas and relaxed, more inspiration.

Winter seems to blanket me, just as it does the grass and flowers, I don't become depressed, I just seem to be less 'alive' almost like a psychological hibernation till the thaw.

Who else experiences changes within the seasons?

Me, definitely. It has to do with lack of sunlight for one thing, not just that "hazy shade of winter" that blocks the sun, but when it's fucking cold out, you don't go out at all (or I don't).

I get depressed with the lack of green and life in general too, much of my inspiration comes from the wonderful vibrancy of the other three seasons.

I definitely get cabin fever. Its even worse this year considering we got like 36" of snow in the last week. So can't wait for festival season again. I need to move somewhere warmer.

i experience this as well, its the worst through early december to late january but now since the sun is rising before i go to work and after i leave i have hope in the world again. any of you guys tried fake sunlight from growlights or "SAD lamps", I have a 150 watt full spectrum fluro that i use in combo with lots of 5htp in those months and i find it allows my personality to regain a bit of its summer vibrancy. IMO what you said about psychological hibernation could be correct, evolutionary-wise it seems logical that much of ones brain should shut off the winter if only to forget about the uncomfortable temperatures in northern climes where my ancestors and I are from. Any ideas on this?

Man, I say that almost daily.

Where are you guy's at? I'm In Central Alberta, Canada. We were the second coldest place in the world this winter, after Siberia  Fuck what people say about what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, that sucked, a lot.

My mother actually uses a sun-mimicing light, idk she says it helps or something. You have to have it above you, as the nerves at the bottom of the eye( that see light above) are most susceptive to it's positiveness ... :)

TO be honest I think winter in the north is time for the brain to think deeply, as is why we get depression, and lets us change our ways in the spring & summer, which would make sense evolutionarily. It allows for deep recognition of what is valued and what isn't - however living in the society we have now, it is masked as a disease :(

Luckily I don't get depressed anymore - I guess thats because I'm more happy with my life patterns, etc... however I still kind of think on a slower wavelength.

I do want to move, but really it's just december - early february that gets me, like one of you said... I envy florida :)

I'm from minnesota, but I think I already told you that nanacap

That's an interesting idea guys. I don't know about evolutionarily speaking, since I know people of southern ethnic backgrounds with the same seasonal depressive effects. But yeah, it gives you time to sort out your life a bit, put things in perspective.

It's true, I spend less time doing and more time thinking in the winter.
