I planted a few San Pedros a few years ago and they have been growing great. I keep them outside during the summer and inside the house in the winter. When they are inside they are in a room about 68 degress +/- and get very little light. I have been watering them with a few gallons of water every 2 to 3 months. Everything was going good until recently (about the last 4 months). I am having the following issues:

2 cacti: approximately 40" tal 3" dia. l: Is starting to turn brownish yellow color at the bottom.
.

What would start turning the bottom of the cacti brownish yellow color? Is it water, lack of sun or should the soil be replaced?

Any thoughts would be apprciated.......
thanks

It depends . Is it beige dry and leathery or soft and mushy / greasy ?

In winter you shouldnt be giving water unless they show signs of shrinking .

I would say more like: beige dry and leathery. It feels like the green part of the plant but is a brownish color. The discoloration is starting from the bottom and working upwards.

Also if I have it inside a room that gets little light, would it be better to put it in a darker area (garage 40 degrees +/-). Or leave it where it is till summer?

Leave them where they are .

The colour on the bottom sounds OK to me . I dont know why it is but i`ve seen it often and the cacti were OK . Maybe they need putting in a bigger pot .

Goran and / or Drugless will probably know .

sometimes cacti skin will get brown/leathery as a protection during drought conditions. it tends to be on older growth near the base

Your problem have several qualities!
Maybe one of three essential elements doesn't have right concentration in cacti soil.
Or wrong watering procedure? U sad that couple of gallons U gave them? One gallon is 12liters? Or am I wrong?
Other problem can be age, when cacti reach certain age he needs to drop down and by this way cacti "bush" enlarges. So this is hard to say with so little info. Sorry.
