Recreational Psychedelia

Let people play in their respective sandboxes...

They are tools and most tools can be used in various ways, however, if you don't know the most useful/constructive way to use a tool, people will call fool.

If there wasn't any recreational, "feel good" aspect to these things people wouldn't feel compelled to engage in these experiences.

I think we can say we all at least "like it".

What would be the other use? Don't we also use the constructive, serious approach to feel better in the end?

it depends on ones approach to the word "recreational"

if taken literally, it would mean along the lines of "starting anew", or "refreshment". so, in this sense, even what many would consider "shamanic" uses would truely also be considered "recreational". but the user community tends to draw a line in the sand between the words "shamanic" and "recreational". i would assume it is due to the typical activities one associates with being "recreational". baseball, hiking, camping, whatever, are all considered recreational, yet they typically do not carry the same level of intensity associated with psychedelics.

really, when it comes down to it-it is not whether or not one should use a drug recreationally, but in reality, it is what one does with that "recreational" time. partying is often associated with alcohol, which is often not associated with a positive "starting anew" or genuine "refreshment". general consensus will agree that quiet reflection, expression of an art, or learning something triumphs over drinking in this regard.

there's nothing wrong with psychedelics in social scenarios, but there are circumstances that go along with it, just as there is with the time spent tripping alone.
