Question about mushrooms

I've never tried mushrooms before (tried MG and HBW seeds and Salvia once...all enjoyable). I don't trust street dealers though because of misidentification and I live in the US so I can't order em through the net.

Any suggestions?

Pick them yourself? =D.....I personally believe that the season may have passed for the more comman shrooms, but you might be lucky. I'm not sure what they call them, But the ones that are found in cow pastures? ( I've heard them called Magik Caps before )Just be careful to make sure you can identify them. The rule i went by was, Pick only the ones that have a purple ring around the stem, right below the cap. So far, i've experienced 3 very nice visual trips =D....

About picking them yourself, are those found in cow droppings? I've read that some mushrooms grew in those, what species of mushroom is it (if anyone knows)?

Exactly. Those are the ones i was speaking about. But again, i can't press enough on the importance it is to make sure you pick the right ones. Purple ring maybe 1/2 - 2 inches below the cap.

I think these are the Stropharia Cubensis variety, although I'm sure other species grow in dung also.

Correct. Psylocibe Cubensis grows in the marshey area's in Florida.

I must say though... GROW YOUR OWN!

Eating cow dung is just gross..

OH! and you have to eat a lot of them to get a decent trip.
